Abstract: A door safety shield includes a shield portion for bridging a gap between a door and a door jamb, a first attachment panel operatively coupled to a first lateral edge of the shield portion, a second attachment panel operatively coupled to a second lateral edge of the shield portion, and at least one separation region extending in a lateral direction across the shield portion, the first attachment panel, and the second attachment panel. The separation region defines a removable portion of the shield which allows a user to easily adjust the length of the shield in the longitudinal direction.

Abstract: A door safety shield generally includes door and door jamb attachment portions and at least one tambour portion extending therebetween. The tambour portion includes a plurality of tambour slats hingedly coupled to one another so as to be substantially flexible in a first direction and substantially inflexible in a second direction. The first tambour portion is coupled to the door attachment portion and/or the door jamb attachment portion by a coupling that is substantially flexible in the second direction and substantially inflexible in the first direction. Methods of preventing injuries at the hinged side of a door and methods of manufacturing a door safety shield are also described.

Abstract: A door safety shield generally includes a door edge attachment portion, a bridge portion, and a door jamb attachment portion. The door edge attachment portion includes a cornering portion which serves to resist detaching forces on the shield at the door edge caused by forces applied to the shield or opening and closing of the door. The bridge portion includes a tambour panel which moves in a rolling fashion, away from the door's hinge, at least when an external force is applied to the shield. The configuration of the tambour panel serves to prevent injuries between the door and the door jamb, and also serves to resist detaching forces on the shield at the door jamb.
