Publication number: 20150060086Abstract: A running tool for installing a liner string having a profile in a wellbore. The running tool includes a mandrel, a prop assembly positioned about the mandrel and a collet assembly slidably positioned on the mandrel. The collet assembly has a generally cylindrical collet collar with a plurality of collet fingers extending therefrom each having a collet head on a distal end thereof. In a first position, the prop assembly radially outwardly flexes the collet fingers such that the collet heads engage the profile of the liner string and are operable to apply a force in the downhole direction to the liner string. In a second position, the collet assembly is remote from the prop assembly such that the collet fingers radially inwardly contract disengaging the collet heads from the profile of the liner string, thereby enabling removal of the running tool from the liner string.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2014Publication date: March 5, 2015Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Dan Saurer, David Joe Steele, Wesley Paul Dietz, Lester Barett Dupler

Publication number: 20150060049Abstract: A collet assembly for installing a liner string having a profile in a wellbore. The collet assembly has a generally cylindrical collet collar with a plurality of collet fingers extending therefrom each having a collet head on a distal end thereof. In a first position, the collet fingers are in a radially outwardly flexed state such that the collet finger extend substantially parallel with the central axis of the collet collar. In a second position, the collet fingers are in a radially relaxed state such that the collet fingers extend from the collet collar to the collet heads at an angle toward the central axis of the collet collar.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2014Publication date: March 5, 2015Applicant: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Dan Saurer, David Joe Steele, Wesley Paul Dietz, Lester Barett Dupler

Patent number: 8393402Abstract: A position reference system (100) for multilateral exit construction in a wellbore (32). The system (100) includes a casing string (34) having a window joint (106) and a pair of latch couplings (102, 104) interconnected therein and positioned in the wellbore (32). The first latch coupling (102) has a first inner profile operably engagable with a mating profile of a first latch assembly (114) to anchor and orient the first latch assembly (114) relative to the window joint (106). The second latch coupling (104) has a second inner profile that is different from the first inner profile of the first latch coupling (102). The second inner profile is operably engagable with a mating profile of a second latch assembly (124) to anchor and orient the second latch assembly (124) relative to the window joint (106).Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2010Date of Patent: March 12, 2013Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventor: Dan Saurer

Publication number: 20050072578Abstract: Methods of operating a downhole tool comprise thermally-controlling the tool by sensing a temperature and controlling the tool in response to the sensed temperature. Thermally-controlled downhole tools comprise a control element responsive to a change in temperature that control flow into, out of, or through a wellbore. Methods and systems for servicing a wellbore comprise using a thermally-controlled tool comprising a thermally-controlled valve (TCV) in a wellbore. The TCV includes a valve body comprising an injection port for allowing material to flow into or out of the wellbore and an opening/closing mechanism for regulating flow of the material through the injection port in response to a change in temperature. The valve body may be coupled to a downhole conduit. A plurality of TCV's may be arranged in the wellbore to control the injection of steam into the wellbore or the recovery of oil from the wellbore.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: David Steele, Russell Bayh, Joseph Parlin, Michael Meaders, Dan Saurer
