  • Patent number: 10780493
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that overcome problems with conventional filters for high temperature casting materials. According to embodiments, uniform, engineered filters enable consistent and repeatable metal flow rates without becoming a secondary source of contamination. Proven Additive Manufacturing (AM) methods generate engineered filters that achieve consistent filtration efficiency and predictable metal flow into a casting mold. Through this application of AM for ceramics, the resulting filter incorporates features that can be adjusted on-demand to address the needs of specific alloys and geometries applied in the production of castings. According to an embodiment, the method includes generating, using an additive manufacturing apparatus, a plurality of layers, wherein each layer includes individual ceramic ligaments arranged in a grid pattern having a two-dimensional rotational orientation. The method further includes stacking the layers along a thickness direction to form the filter.

  • Patent number: 10372834
Abstract: Systems and methods include generating an integrated technical data package that incorporates a plurality of objects associated with a development of a product so that each object is integrated with other objects based on a relationship between each of the objects. Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to incorporating the plurality of objects into a technical data package database. A relationship between each of the plurality of objects may be identified based on an impact each of the objects has on each other object in the development of the product. The plurality of objects may be integrated based on the relationship between each of the object so that an update to at least one object propagates through to each other object integrated with the at least one object. The integrated technical data package may be generated to provide an updated snapshot of the development of the product.

  • Publication number: 20180009128
Abstract: A disclosed system includes an additive manufacturing printer that performs a layer by layer three-dimensional printing process generating a casting mold based on a three-dimensional numerical specification. The numerical specification is based on a desired casting shape, including internal features such as hollow areas formed by cores, and is further based on a thermo-mechanical model of a casting process. The numerical specification describes variations in material and geometric properties of one or more layers of the casting mold corresponding to variations in the thermal and mechanical properties of the casting processes, as predicted by the thermo-mechanical model. The system may vary the thickness of features of the casting mold, based on predicted cooling rates, to reduce cooling non-uniformities and to provide for controlled, predictable cooling of the casting. The system may further generate trusses and heat sinks in the mold to respectively strengthen and weaken various features of the mold.

  • Patent number: 6658428
Abstract: An object-based, semantic representation for documents as information containers, using a controlled taxonomy, facilitates the extraction of meaning from such information containers to provide high-level, automated document interpretation. The high-level functions that are enabled include automated filtering of an information container in accordance with the controlled taxonomy and a set of conditions, to produce a result having only those information objects that are applicable under the specified set of conditions. These functions further include automated combination of information objects which comprise the information containers, to build a composite information container that reflects combined meaning of the associated documents, and automated handling of references from one information container to another.
