Patent number: 10416815Abstract: A screen has first and second sides to receive at least one beam on the first side and to display an image on the second side opposite the first side. The beam represents the image. The first side includes a collimating structure to direct the beam from the first side through first striped regions of the screen to the second side. The screen includes second striped regions, positioned between the first and second sides, to emit near-IR light to the second side in response to an excitation source that is selected from a group consisting of an electrical excitation source and a photoluminescence excitation source. The second side includes a diffusion layer. The first side is viewable to detect a portion of the emitted near-IR light reflected back from the second side through the first striped regions to the first side. The detected portion is processable to determine a position touch on the second side.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2018Date of Patent: September 17, 2019Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Marshall Charles Capps, Dana Franklin Segler, Jr.

Patent number: 10042478Abstract: A rear-projection display. The display includes image modulation apparatus for projecting at least a first beam representing an image to be displayed. The display also includes a screen for receiving the first beam on a first side and displaying the image on a second side, opposite the first side. The screen includes energy-responsive apparatus for emitting near-IR light away from the second side. The display also includes a camera for detecting reflected near-IR light and processing circuitry for processing the detecting reflected near-IR light to determine a position touch on the second side.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2014Date of Patent: August 7, 2018Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Marshall Charles Capps, Dana Franklin Segler, Jr.

Patent number: 5575362Abstract: The invention relates to a telescoping pull handle for use in towing wheeled luggage. The handle may be collapsed to a reduced length to accommodate easy use with luggage that is carried onto and stowed in passenger transportation vehicles. The invention also is extendable to a sufficient length to permit the user comfortably to tow the wheeled luggage across a supporting surface. The invention includes incorporating into the telescoping handle devices permitting the user to strap or hook to the wheeled luggage auxiliary items of luggage. An improved extendable grip is disclosed for use with the inventive handle.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventors: Dana Franklin, Bonnie M. Patent number: 5560458Abstract: A handle and restraint assembly is for carries and maneuvering a main luggage case having wheels. An extendable handle is moveable into a fully extended position, a fully retracted position, and a selected intermediate position. A restraint device is operatively connected to the handle to selectively restrain the handle in the extended and retracted positions. The restraint device includes a selectively extendable elongated flexible belt by which to connect an auxiliary luggage case for carrying on the main case. The elongated flexible element is extendable for connection to the handle, and may restrain the handle in an intermediate position for carrying the case or for pulling the case on the wheels. A first clutch controls the extension, retraction and retention of the belt, and a second clutch controls the extension, retraction and retention of the handle. The first and second clutches are separately operable independently or they are interconnected to operate simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventors: Dana Franklin, Bonnie M. Patent number: 5501324Abstract: An openable and closeable soft-sided luggage case having an external flexible panel, an internal frame structure surrounding an internal cavity, and a carrying handle or a carrying strap connected to the frame structure, includes a first packing compartment which is connected to the external panel. The first packing compartment extends into the interior cavity and consumes a portion of the interior cavity when the case is closed. The remaining portion of the interior cavity forms a second packing compartment. The first packing compartment includes a cover member which is selectively closeable for separating the first and second packing compartments when the case is closed and which is selectively openable for allowing access to the first packing compartment when the case is opened. The first and second packing compartments are equally accessible and available for packing. The first packing compartment may function as a garment bag. A packing and unpacking method is also used for the case.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1994Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventors: Dana Franklin, Bonnie M. Earl

Patent number: 5180057Abstract: Past garment bags have included expansion features such as a peripheral zipper in the rail portion to permit the garment bag to expand to accommodate a greater number of clothes. A hanger bar for supporting clothes on hangers has also been provided which has a collapsed condition for supporting few hangers, and an expanded condition for supporting a greater number of hangers corresponding to the expanded condition of the garment bag in which the hanger bar is suspended. Such hanger bars have failed to include an effective means for holding the hooked portions of ordinary closet-type hangers in either the collapsed or expanded condition of the hanger bar. Disclosed is such a garment bag with a hanger bar having hanger retaining means which is effective whether the hanger bar has a shortened length corresponding to the collapsed condition of the garment bag or a lengthened condition corresponding to an expanded condition of the garment bag.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1991Date of Patent: January 19, 1993Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventor: Dana Franklin
