  • Patent number: 8320948
Abstract: A system and method for probability-based resource allocation in a wireless communications system is provided. A method for centralized resource allocation includes coordinating spectrum sensing information with a set of cognitive radio (CR) user pairs, computing probability-based information for CR user pairs in the set of CR user pairs, computing adjustment values for each channel available for allocation, assigning a CR user pair to an unassigned channel in a set of channels available for allocation, the assigning based on the probability-based information, updating the adjustment values, repeating the assigning a CR user pair and the updating the adjustment values if the adjustment values have not converged, and transmitting a message to the set of CR user pairs, wherein the message comprises information regarding CR user pair to channel assignments.

  • Publication number: 20120263120
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of scheduling guaranteed bit rate and/or maximum bit rate applications. Embodiments of the method may include setting, for a mobile node during a time interval, a first weight equal to a sum of a previous first weight associated with the mobile node during a previous time interval and a correction factor that is a linear function of a difference between a first bit rate and an indication of a throughput of the mobile node. Embodiments of the method may also include scheduling communication with the mobile node based on the first weight.

  • Patent number: 8099042
Abstract: A cooperative communication scheme is provided for a base station (BS) to communicate with a mobile station (MS) through a group of relay stations (RSs). The RSs, collectively referred to as a relay-associated group of RSs (R-group), serve the same target MS. The R-group may be formed during initial ranging or during periodical ranging of the MSs, according to the channel conditions between the MSs and the RSs. A reliable relay-associated transmission scheme provides fast recovery and reduces the burden on the BS. In one exemplary scheme, the BS transmits data to the R-group. To ensure that reliable transmission exists between the BS and the R-group, the BS initially sends the information to all the RSs in the R-group using multicast or unicast mode.

  • Patent number: 8010041
Abstract: A base station (BS) communicates with a mobile station (MS) through relay stations (RSs). In one exemplary reliable relay-associated transmission scheme, the BS transmits data to the RSs using multicast or unicast. From the received packets, each RS calculates its reliability value according to a reliability function, which it informs the MS. The BS then generates a reliability metric to identify the RSs that are considered reliable. The reliable RSs transmit their information to the MS under a cooperative multicast transmission mode. Meanwhile, the unreliable RSs overhear the transmissions between the reliable RSs and the target MS. If the MS is unable to receive information from reliable RSs, the unreliable RSs can join the cooperative transmission to provide a higher cooperative diversity gain to the target MS.

  • Publication number: 20100248760
Abstract: A system and method for cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio (CR) systems is provided. A method for CR user operation includes coordinating with partner CR users to share spectrum sensing information, combining spectrum sensing information from partner CR users, and determining if a transmission opportunity exists based on the combined spectrum sensing information. The method also includes transmitting a message to a CR user if the transmission opportunity exists, and storing the message if the transmission opportunity does not exist.
