  • Patent number: 5362452
Abstract: A device for carrying out a succession of heterogeneous catalysis reactions and thermal reactions has an external cylindrical envelope with a longitudinal axis, a coaxial gas permeable casing containing a catalyst located within the envelope, a central manifold, a unit for the injection of a principal reagent into the gas permeable casing, a unit for the injection of reactive components for the catalytic reaction into said casing and an outlet for discharging reaction products from the envelope; an internal diameter of the casing being greater than an external diameter of the central manifold in order to create an annular space therebetween for providing sufficient time for products of a catalytic reaction to remain in order to permit a thermal reaction to develop.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 1992
Date of Patent: November 8, 1994
    Assignee: Institut Francais du Petrole
Inventors: Dang V. Quang, Charles Cameron
  • Patent number: 5192512
Abstract: The invention concerns a process and an apparatus for performing chemical reactions under pressure in the presence of a solid catalyst in a multi-stage reaction zone, after external intermediary thermal conditioning. This process may be used for the synthesis of ammonia or methanol or for gasoline reforming. It is characterized in that at least one reaction fluid is introduced into at least one compartment, a first reaction effluent is recovered, a heat exchange takes place, outside the reaction zone, between a first effluent and an external heat exchange medium, then the first effluent is introduced into at least one subsequent compartment and a second reaction effluent is recovered from the subsequent compartment.

Date of Patent: March 9, 1993
    Assignee: Institut Francais du Petrole

  • Patent number: 4897089
Abstract: The present invention provides a burner for the partial oxidation under pressure of a first fluid by the second fluid. This burner comprises two fluid introduction tubes, one being internal to the other, with each of the tubes comprising a plate, and with each plate having several holes and a plate of the external tube has holes placed opposite the holes in the internal plate.

  • Patent number: 4687656
Abstract: Process and apparatus for carrying out reactions in gas phase, wherein the gas is passed through a cylindrical catalytic reactor so designed that the catalyst bed is divided into several portions arranged in distinct vertical parallelepipedic compartments which are successively traversed by the reaction gas in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical reactor. Fresh gas may be supplied between two compartments to maintain the temperature in a well controlled range.

  • Patent number: 4582630
Abstract: A synthesis gas for methanol production, containing hydrogen and carbon oxides, is obtained by performing, separately, a steam-reforming of hydrocarbons and a hydrocarbon combustion step: the effluents are admixed and the resultant mixture is subjected to steam-reforming.

  • Patent number: 4497910
Abstract: Process for the catalytic synthesis of methane by reaction of carbon oxides with hydrogen in the presence of liquid water, wherein the catalyst is formed of a carrier consisting either of coal or charcoal, preferably of plant origin, or of alumina-silica, on which is deposited ruthenium, for example by impregnation with ruthenium acetylacetonate, said catalyst being preferably used as particles suspended in water.
