  • Patent number: 7058782
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating dynamic memory page deallocation with a redundant bit line steering mechanism are provided. With the method and apparatus, memory scrubbing and redundant bit line steering operations are performed in parallel with handling of notifications of runtime correctable errors. When a correctable error is encountered during runtime, and the correctable error is determined to be persistent, then dynamic memory page deallocation is requested of a hypervisor. The determination of persistence is based on a history CE table that is populated by the operation of the memory scrubbing and redundant bit line steering mechanism of a service processor. Thus, only those correctable errors that persist for longer than one memory scrubbing cycle are subject to memory page deallocation.

  • Patent number: 7057848
Abstract: A storage library for recording and retrieving information from storage media cartridges each having a label side includes a front side having an opening. Left and right slots are disposed proximate the left and right sides of the storage library for holding the storage media cartridges. The slots and the storage media cartridges are oriented so that each label side of the storage media cartridges is visible to an operator through the opening. Each of the slots are accessible to the operator via the opening for the operator to access the storage media cartridges being held by the slots. A media drive is disposed proximate the back side of the storage library and is operative to receive a storage media cartridge through a port. A robotic mechanism is disposed between the slots and is operative to move the storage media cartridges between the slots and the media drive.

  • Patent number: 7031430
Abstract: A system and a method for detecting an object, such as an explosive device or material, located within a closed article, such as a piece of luggage or a parcel. The system includes an acquisition subsystem for acquiring information pertaining to a specific object, a reconstruction subsystem for reconstructing acquired information pertaining to the specific object into image data, and a computer-aided detection subsystem adapted for identifying the specific object through the use of differential operators. The method includes obtaining image data of the one object, computing a differential operator for each voxel of the image data, computing eigenvalues and eigenvectors for each of the voxels, and computing a scalar function of the eigenvalues to ascertain whether each of the voxels represents a portion of the one object.

  • Patent number: 7030156
Abstract: This invention relates to devices, kits, and methods for eliminating termite colonies. The kits, devices, and methods employ a termiticidal bait matrix containing a) a termiticide selected such that the termiticide causes death to about 50 to about 100% of termites within about 24 to about 84 days after the termites begin to ingest the termiticide or the bait matrix comprising the termiticide, b) a cellulose containing material, and c) water. The termiticidal bait matrix can be used in a bait station installed in the ground. The kits are suitable to be used by consumers in their homes.

  • Patent number: 7023633
Abstract: A system and process for constructing a magnetic storage drive capable of single pass self-servowriting. A plurality of heads are sorted, or “binned,” into classifications based on at least an approximate magnetic width of each head. Only heads from a single classification are installed in a particular disk drive system. A track overlap value is calculated, preferably empirically, for the approximate magnetic widths of typical heads in the single classification. The overlap value is used to determine a track spacing utilized during a self-servowriting process.

  • Patent number: 7016933
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for generating an alternative form of transmitted environmental data, e.g., scent information, air temperature settings, air humidity settings, triggering of infrared devices such as to create tactile warmth. Upon identifying one or more environmental data files in a received file, e.g., HTML file, environmental data associated with the data files may be read and interpreted. If there are no environmental devices, e.g., smell-generating device, configured to emit a response to the environmental data or if the environmental devices are disabled from emitting a response to the environmental data, then the environmental data may be translated into a form a computer may be capable of reproducing. The translated form may then be outputted in a variety of forms such as: pictorial data (e.g., picture of a pine tree substituting a pine smell), graphical effects (e.g., screen-flashing effect may substitute a strobe-light trigger).

  • Patent number: 7004392
Abstract: A robot apparatus and a barcode scanner to be used for collecting positional data parallel to the scan direction in, for example, a library storage system is provided. In one embodiment, the robotic apparatus includes a barcode scanner having a scan path and an attenuation surface within the scanner scan path. The barcode scanner scans the target while the robotic apparatus is moved in a direction parallel with the scan path. Positional data is collected in conjunction with the readability limits of the barcode target. The central position of the target in a parallel direction to the scan path is determined based on the readability of the barcode target and the correlating positional data. The barcode scanner can also scan the target while the robotic apparatus is moved in a direction perpendicular with the scan path. Positional data is collected in conjunction with the readability limits of the barcode target.

  • Patent number: 6959245
Abstract: Methods of characterizing subsurface conditions in a selected geographic region previously associated as a whole with a specific subsurface material characteristic reference profile such as from a USDA-NRCS soil survey. The method includes deploying a sensing tool at selected positions within the geographic region to determine a depth-referenced subsurface material characteristic such as soil type or strata, comparing the determined subsurface material characteristic to the subsurface material characteristic reference profile associated with the geographic region to determine a correlation between the subsurface material characteristic reference profile and the depth-referenced subsurface material characteristic, and then deciding whether to deploy the tool at another position, and at what optimum position to deploy the tool, by considering the correlation.

  • Patent number: 6959428
Abstract: A register address generation tool is used during the design of semiconductor products. For those registers and/or memories that are addressable on a bus, the register address generation tool creates the interconnect RTL, header files, static timing analysis constraint files, and verification testcases. The tool also maintains coherence between what has been generated and the available resources for the design of the semiconductor product in a design. If there are any registers and/or memories that are not being used, the register address generation tool may further generate the RTL that will convert these unused resources to performance-enhancing features such as control registers, status registers, etc. The register address generation tool read a design database having an application set to determine what hardmacs and what transistor fabric is available. It also receives as input a bus specification and address parameters.

  • Patent number: 6951514
Abstract: An agricultural combine having a supporting structure that is driven by ground engaging wheels at a harvesting speed by a propulsion assembly. The combine is also provided with crop processing assemblies for processing a harvested crop. A feederhouse directs the harvested crop material to the crop processing assemblies. A feederhouse force sensor senses the force exerted by the harvested crop material as it passes through the feederhouse. The feederhouse force signal is directly related to crop throughput. An operator control in the operator's cab of the combine provides a loss rate signal that is also directed to the electronic controller. The electronic controller converts the loss rate signal into a desired feederhouse force signal. The electronic controller regulates the forward speed or harvesting speed of the combine so that the desired feederhouse force signal is equal to the actual feederhouse force signal.
