  • Patent number: 10094158
Abstract: A door safety device generally includes a mounting member for coupling the device to a door and a blocking member for preventing complete closure of the door when the mounting member is attached to the door and the device is in a blocking configuration. The device can also include an intermediate member coupled between the mounting member and the blocking member. The intermediate member defines a first hinge axis extending in a direction parallel to the surface of the door and parallel to an edge of the door. The blocking member is movable (e.g., rotatable or revolvable) about the first hinge axis, at least when the mounting member is coupled to the door and the device is in a blocking configuration, so as to inhibit the transfer of detachment forces from the blocking member to the mounting member upon impact.

  • Publication number: 20170129160
Abstract: A door safety device generally includes a door attachment portion, a spanning portion, and a door jamb attachment portion. The spanning portion can be operatively coupled to the door (and/or door jamb) attachment portions by one or more living hinges, optionally with tambour portions disposed between the spanning portion and the door (and/or door jamb) attachment portios. The tambour portions can also include one or more living hinges. The living hinges can have a range of motion of less than 180 degrees, for example less than 175, 170, 165, or 160 degrees. A method of manufacturing a door safety device includes creating a score line along a surface of a substantially planar sheet of material, and snapping the sheet along the score line so as to create a hinge. The snapping creates a plastic deformation of the material in the region of the score line.

  • Publication number: 20150148154
Abstract: A portable system for playing sports and methods of providing the same are described. In its assembled form, the system can have a generally two-dimensional configuration. The system includes a first member that defines an outer boundary of a sports court, and a second member that defines a space between opposing sides of the court. The first and second members can be movable with respect to one another so as to adjust the size and position of the space. The horizontally-extending space can take the place of a net that would otherwise be present in a system for playing net sports. The system also include anchors that anchor the first and second members to the ground.

  • Patent number: 8950040
Abstract: A door safety device for either a hinged or a sliding door which when closing places the vertical door side edge in a position abutting the vertical face of either of two sides of a door jamb, or the vertical face of another sliding door, or the threshold end of a sliding door track. The device employs a body in pivotal engagement with a resilient body for positioning the body in an as-used position between the door side edge and the vertical face to maintain a gap to prevent finger crushing. A curved leading edge provides a deflection of impact forces upon the resilient body to prevent marring of the vertical face of the door jamb or threshold.

  • Patent number: 8776316
Abstract: A device for preventing injury between the surfaces of the leading edge of a closing door and an edge of a recess surrounded by a door jamb which surrounds the door when closed. The device features a housing and two sequential translating members which contact the recess edge and maintain a gap between it and the door edge for a dwell time which the second member remains between the two edges.
