Patent number: 8711439Abstract: A scanner enables full productivity and individual image size detection, without user intervention for mixed size originals in both simplex and duplex scanning modes. The scanner provides high-productivity single pass scanning while preserving the image size for each of the document scanned. In addition, the scanner may support duplex scanning by adding a second image sensor, for example, in the document handler. Methods of scanning are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2009Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Aron Nacman, Seth H. Groder, John C. Guarrera, Dawn Marie LaPietra, Whynn Victor Lovette, Daniel A. Mohabir, John F. Seward

Patent number: 8009931Abstract: In a digital reproduction system incorporating a single pass scanner, accurate image processing results from processing a subset of grayscale image data. More specifically, scanlines that correspond to the leading edge of a document are stored and processed to detect skew and to obtain an appropriate correction. The lead edge correction is then applied to the entire grayscale image. Accordingly, the present systems and methods eliminate skew from grayscale images in real-time. The corrected image is rendered to binary and stored in electronic pre-collation memory and cropping, masking and other image editing operations can be performed on the binary image data before the image is printed.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2009Date of Patent: August 30, 2011Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Xing Li, Daniel A Mohabir, Roger L Triplett

Patent number: 7894094Abstract: A system and method to provide 180-degree rotation of image data at full throughput. The system includes a memory access controller that writes bursts of image data into a rotation buffer. The image data is then read out of the rotation buffer in the reverse order from which it was written to thereby accomplish rotation. By alternating the position in the rotation buffer in which the image data is written such that an image is either written into the buffer from top and read from the bottom or written into the buffer from the bottom and read out from the top, a one page rotation buffer of can be used to concurrently process two pages.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2004Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Aron Nacman, Daniel A. Mohabir, Lisa M. Schlachter, Dawn M. Lapietra, James P. Guy, Brian R. Caffee

Patent number: 7480078Abstract: A method and system for performing error diffusion are disclosed. An ordered set of pixels, including a pixel intensity value for each pixel, is received. Each pixel intensity value includes a value within a range from a low value to a high value, inclusive. An initial error value is also received. Based on the pixel intensity values and the initial error value, a pixel value for each pixel and an updated error value are computed substantially simultaneously with each other.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2005Date of Patent: January 20, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Yungran Choi, Xing Li, Daniel A. Patent number: 5920685Abstract: A printing system, for merging a scanned image with a merge image to produce a composite image, is provided. The printing system includes a memory for storing the merge image, in the form of a first set of image data, and a decompression device for decompressing the first set of image data. The printing system further includes a scanner, for reading a hard-copy page to generate a second set of image data, and a annotate/merge device, the annotate/merge device electronically merging the decompressed first set of image data with the second set of image data to produce the composite image.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kenneth D. Romano, Robert M. Chapin, Anthony M. Frumusa, Khalid M. Rabb, James G. Nargi, David L. Salgado, Daniel A. Mohabir

Patent number: 5764377Abstract: A raster output scanner data controller reads pixels of an image from an image memory and outputs serially pixel data streams to a raster output scanner. The data controller includes an image memory storing a plurality of pixel data blocks in a scan line order, an image memory controller coupled to the image memory, a plurality of first-in, first-out memories coupled to the image memory controller for storing pixel data blocks corresponding to a plurality of beams, and an image controller coupled to the plurality of first-in, first-out memories. The pixel data blocks are transferred from the image memory to the plurality of first-in, first-out memories. The image controller reads the pixel data blocks from the plurality of first-in, first-out memories, converts the pixel data blocks read from the plurality of first-in, first-out memories into a plurality of pixel data streams and outputs the plurality of pixel data streams to the raster output scanner.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Aron Nacman, Daniel A. Patent number: 5710873Abstract: A printing system for processing one or more images of a job is provided. The printing system includes a video bus communicating with both a first transfer module and an image processing section. In operation, a first segment of the job is processed in the image processing section while a second segment of the job is buffered in the first transfer module. Subsequently, the first segment of the job is transferred away from the image processing section, with a second transfer module, coincidentally with the the second segment being transferred to the image processing section.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1994Date of Patent: January 20, 1998Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kenneth D.
