  • Patent number: 7059083
Abstract: An artificial seedbed used in growing vegetation. The artificial seedbed comprises a base layer formed of a biodegradable product having a porosity and wet density that permit a root of the desired vegetation to penetrate the base layer and establish the vegetation for growing. The artificial seedbed also comprises an intermediate layer comprising a plurality of seeds for use in growing the desired vegetation. A cover layer cooperates with the base layer to form an envelope about the intermediate layer. The cover layer can be coextensive with the base layer and secured to the base layer by a bonding agent. The cover layer is formed of the same or different biodegradable product as the base layer. The material used in the cover layer permits the sprouting vegetation to penetrate it during the growing process.

  • Publication number: 20050009192
Abstract: A water quality detection system for distributed water supply network. The system, 1, comprises a multiplicity of detectors, 5, wherein each detector of the detectors is capable of monitoring at least one attribute of water and providing a signal related to the attribute. A controller, 7, is provided which is capable of receiving each signal and comparing the signal to a control signal for the attribute. A response mechanism, 9, is responsive to the controller and activated when at least one signal matches the control signal. An access gate, 10, limits access to at least one of the detector, the controller or the response mechanism. An access key, 13, is provided for comparing a user attribute with a stored attribute wherein when the user attribute matches the stored attribute access is provided into the access gate.

  • Patent number: 5415017
Abstract: A valve lock has a body and a moveable jaw for releasably gripping a lever handle of the valve against the body. The jaw has a threaded shaft that extends through a hole in the body, and a locking cleat is slidable on the threaded shaft. An arm is attached to the shaft between the body and the locking cleat, and is rotatable about the shaft to abut either the valve or a pipe connected to the valve. A hand wheel is threaded onto the shaft and can be tightened against the locking cleat which then forces the arm against the body to inhibit rotation of the arm about the shaft. The locking cleat has an aperture for receiving the shackle of a padlock, and the hand wheel has a plurality of notches in an exterior surface with one of the notches receiving the shackle to restrict movement of the wheel along the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5056540
Abstract: A tooth flossing device for making the task of flossing teeth easier, neater, and more effective. A handle, designed for being gripped by a hand of a user, carries a removable, replaceable cartridge attached to one end. This cartridge contains a length of dental floss stretched between two pole pieces which are just far enough apart to pass a tooth between them. A user inserts the cartridge end of the flosser into his mouth, pressing the length of floss between two adjacent teeth, repeating the action until the spaces between all teeth have been cleaned. A used cartridge can be quickly and easily removed from the handle and replaced by a new one by pressing a detent and sliding the old cartridge from engagement with the handle. When the fresh cartridge is inserted, the detent automatically locks it into position.
