  • Patent number: 12241474
Abstract: A compressor including a housing, a shaft configured to be rotated relative to the housing to compress a refrigerant, a motor configured to drive the shaft, a lubrication system configured to supply lubricant to the compressor, and a bearing configured to support the shaft. The shaft includes a wear-resistant sleeve-like treatment on at least a portion of an outer surface of the shaft adjacent the bearing. The lubricant is POE oil or a lubricant blend composition that includes two or more lubricants, the two or more lubricants including a first lubricant and a second lubricant.

  • Publication number: 20250027503
Abstract: A compressor includes a driveshaft, a bearingless motor, one or more magnetic bearings, and a controller for the bearingless motor. The bearingless motor configured to rotate the driveshaft to compress a working fluid. The one or more magnetic bearings magnetically support the driveshaft when rotating. The controller is configured to adjust magnetic support provided by the bearingless motor to the driveshaft based on operation of the compressor. A method of operating a compressor includes rotating, with a bearingless motor, a driveshaft to compress a working fluid and magnetically supporting, with one or more magnetic bearings, the driveshaft. The method also includes magnetically supporting, with the bearingless motor, the driveshaft in which the magnetic support provided by the bearingless motor is adjusted based on operation of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 11085680
Abstract: Compositions, methods, systems, and applications herein are directed to lubricant blends that balance solubility and viscosity of a refrigerant, where in some cases the lubricant blends herein help reduce solubility of a refrigerant. A lubricant blend includes a mixture of two or more different types of lubricants to reduce refrigerant solubility.

  • Patent number: 11035382
Abstract: A variable orifice flow device controls the flow of refrigerant into a compressor motor housing in a compressor. The variable orifice flow device may include, for example, an electronic expansion valve, a thermal expansion valve, or a shuttling valve controlling the flow of refrigerant into a compressor motor housing. One or more flows of refrigerant may be through a fixed orifice, a valve seat of the variable orifice flow device, or leakage through a seal of the compressor motor housing, providing a baseline refrigerant flow to the inside of the compressor motor housing in addition to the flow through the variable orifice flow device.
