Publication number: 20110219029Abstract: The browsing activity of a first user is motivated by some intent. The first user requests retrieval of a particular document while browsing. A document processing and presentation machine associates the document with a retrieval path taken by the first user. By using the retrieval path data of the document, the document processing and presentation machine infers an intent that likely motivated the first user. When a second user makes a request similar to a request within the retrieval path, the machine presents the second user with the document and some of the retrieval path data, thus providing the second user with a shortcut that leads the second user directly to the document. Thus, the second user may be able to satisfy his intent with significantly less browsing activity compared to the first user.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2010Publication date: September 8, 2011Inventors: Daniel-Alexander Billsus, Wei Chai, Sam P. Hamilton, Jonathan Blake Handler, Nir Yeffet

Patent number: 7757170Abstract: Systems and methods for processing automatically generated recommendations. In various exemplary embodiments, a method of producing a recommendation digest for a user includes (a) generating a recommendation log for the user by storing a plurality of recommendations, one or more of the plurality of recommendations relating to a representation of a context that led to the creation of the one or more recommendations for the user, and (b) determining a subset of recommendations by using one or more statistics obtained from processing the plurality of recommendations stored in the log.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2004Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Daniel-Alexander Billsus, Christopher D. Culy, David M. Hilbert, Jonathan J. Trevor

Publication number: 20080116255Abstract: Methods and apparatus for assuring that branding or other labels properly appear at all times when images are shared, such as by projecting a presentation. In addition, the automatic labeling is utilized for access control and corporate content management of recorded images. The method operates by causing a computer to monitor a sharing event, and when a sharing event has been detected, causing the computer to overlay at least one of a pre-stored or dynamically generated labels over the shared image. The label is applied only if after analyzing the image it is determined that it is not properly labeled. The label or part of it may include a machine-readable code that may include or point to metadata relating to the image.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2006Publication date: May 22, 2008Applicant: FUJI XEROX CO., LTD.Inventors: David M. Publication number: 20080114990Abstract: Described is a technique for providing shared access to an encrypted portable memory device which improves both usability and security by allowing the owner of the encrypted storage device to designate access to specified files only to the next host to mount the secure disk. The number of steps required to perform a file sharing operation is greatly reduced with this system and access to the contents of the protected storage device can be granted with greater granularity.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2006Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: FUJI XEROX CO., LTD.Inventors: David M. Hilbert, Daniel-Alexander Billsus, John E. Adcock, Wolfgang Polak, Laurent Denoue, Eleanor G. Rieffel

Publication number: 20050138067Abstract: A medium, system and method of generating an information digest document. In various exemplary embodiments, the medium, system and/or method may include determining associated previously accessed content information in response to a user-defined digest specification, and generating a digest document of the associated previously accessed content information.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2003Publication date: June 23, 2005Applicant: FUJI XEROX CO., LTD.Inventors: Daniel-Alexander Billsus, David Hilbert, Jonathan Trevor, Christopher Culy, Laurent Denoue, Gene Golovchinsky

Publication number: 20050076013Abstract: Context-based contact information retrieval systems and methods that automatically extract contact information from a user's context, allow a user to capture, reuse and share personal and organizational contacts in the form of a business card or an audio/video recording, as desired. In various embodiments, contacts are retrieved based on the user's context and are presented in a manner that does not disrupt the user's current task. In various embodiments, the user accesses the details of the contacts with a single interaction. In various embodiments, the systems and methods monitor the user's current context and check for matches. The systems and methods then assign a score to each match and unobtrusively present at least some of the matches to the user based on the assigned score.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 1, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Applicant: FUJI XEROX CO., LTD.Inventors: David Hilbert, Quan Tran, Jonathan Trevor, Daniel-Alexander Billsus, James Vaughan
