  • Patent number: 8369489
Abstract: A method (300) for providing an audio message (105). The method can include detecting at least one external parameter (125, 130, 135). Detecting the external parameter can include detecting a time, a location or a station identifier. Detecting the location can include receiving a signal from a network node (110) or a beacon (115), or receiving location information from a positioning system (240). In one arrangement, detecting the external parameter can include detecting a plurality of identifiers, such as a time, a location and/or a station identifier. The external parameter can be processed to identify at least one audio attribute (265) associated with a voice persona. An audio message then can be generated based, at least in part, on the audio attribute. Identifying the audio attribute can include identifying at least a second audio attribute associated with a background sound.

  • Patent number: 8249646
Abstract: A server includes a communications adapter; a controller and a datastore. The controller receives a first user input via a user interface to associate at least one image attribute with a contact. Thereby, responsive to receiving an image from an electronic apparatus, the controller automatically processes the image to identify at least one feature of the image that corresponds to the image attribute, and associates the image with the contact based on the image attribute; and communicates the image to the contact via the communications adapter. The datastore is suitable for storing digital information, and is communicatively coupled to the controller.

  • Patent number: 7925293
Abstract: A method (600) of communicating that can include, responsive to receiving an image (125), automatically processing the image to associate the image with a contact, and communicating the image to the contact. Receiving the image can include capturing the image with an image capture device (215). The method also can include associating a message with the image, and automatically communicating the message with the image. At least one image attribute can be associated with the contact. In such an arrangement, processing the image can include identifying at least one feature of the image that corresponds to the image attribute. • Patent number: 7885394
Abstract: A method (10) and system (200, 400, or 500) of call reverse can include initiating (12) a call by an originating party (204) to a terminating party (208), comparing (14) rate plans, and automatically reversing (26) the call if a rate plan for the terminating party is currently more economical than a rate plan for the originating party. The method can compare (22) rate plans at a server (206) having rate plan information for the parties. Alternatively, the method can send (16) rate plan information for the originating to the terminating party and compare rate plans at the terminating party. The method can pre-store (20) rate plan information for the originating party at a memory at the terminating party. The method can also use (24) Caller ID to detect a call from the originating party and compare pre-stored rate plan information for the originating party stored at the terminating party.

  • Publication number: 20090298419
Abstract: A method (300) of exchanging content (170). On a first mobile station (110), a direction in which a second mobile station (120) is positioned can be determined. The second mobile station can be authenticated. Responsive to receiving a user input that indicates to communicate the content to the second mobile station, the content can be wirelessly transmitted to the second mobile station. A mobile station can include a user interface (204), which may include a display (114). The mobile station also can include a controller (202) that determines a direction in which a second mobile station is positioned and authenticates the second mobile station. Responsive to the user interface receiving a user input that indicates to communicate the content to the second mobile station, a transceiver (224) can wirelessly transmit the content to the second mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20090165053
Abstract: A method and system for accessing and controlling multimedia content information, including end user profile information and EPG application information associated with the content, provided to and/or stored on a home multimedia processing device via a host or visiting multimedia processing device. Access by the host or visiting multimedia processing device can be controlled using a suitable control device, such as an end user mobile communication device associated with the host multimedia processing device. The control device is configured to make use of an end user profile application and an electronic program guide (EPG) application that allow authorized end users to enable the host multimedia processing device to be essentially an access client for the home multimedia processing device. Thus, an end user can access content associated with their home multimedia processing device using a host multimedia processing device located at a neighbor's house or other host location.

  • Patent number: 7369119
Abstract: An electronic device (100, 200) contains a first joystick mechanism (114) and a second joystick mechanism (112), each joystick mechanism (112, 114) extending outside of substantially opposed outer surfaces (403, 414) of the electronic device's casing. When a directional mechanical force is applied to one joystick mechanism (112, 114), at least one of a plurality of switches (410) may be engaged. The joystick mechanisms (112, 114) are electrically coupled, and each mechanism will provide the same functionality. The joystick mechanisms (112, 114) may be further mechanically coupled, whereby applying a directional mechanical force on one joystick mechanism will move the other joystick mechanism in the opposite direction. Additionally, the joystick mechanisms (112, 114 or 1002, 1004) may contain a sensor (416) capacitvely coupled to a conductive end cap (404, 405) to detect from which side of the electronic device (100, 200) a joystick mechanism is being moved.

  • Publication number: 20080102903
Abstract: A method (500) for reserving energy resources on a communication device (115, 120, 300). The method can include receiving an emergency indicator (135) associated with an emergency plan. Based on the emergency indicator, an amount of energy to reserve on a communication device can be selected. The selected amount of energy then can be reserved on the communication device. Receiving the emergency indicator can include receiving an indicator (140, 145) of an assigned role or task. Receiving the emergency indicator also can include receiving an indictor of the energy to be reserved. Selecting the amount of energy to reserve can include selecting an amount of energy associated with the role or task. In response to receiving the emergency indicator, an acknowledgement (150, 155) of whether an assignment of the role or task is accepted can be communicated.

  • Publication number: 20080084990
Abstract: The invention concerns a method (200) and system (100) for controlling communication replies. The method can include the steps of selecting (210) one or more recipients of a call at an originating communication unit (110), placing (212) the call to the selected recipients and sending (214) along with the placed call a no reply indicator to the recipients of the call that will automatically block a reply call from the recipients. This block may prevent the recipients from having an opportunity to place the reply call. The method may also include the step of receiving (216) an acknowledgement from one or more of the recipients that indicates that the recipients received the placed call. As an example, the call can be a dispatch call, and the recipients can be members of a predetermined dispatch group.
