Abstract: The present invention is a system (20) for controlling various fluid flows, e.g., secondary fluid flows including cavitating fluid flows, typically developed along the shroud line and usually in or around a leading edge (21) within a flow channel (22) of a compressor or pump impeller (23) and inducer/impeller (24). System (20) includes a plurality of devices for controlling various flow conditions. In one embodiment, system (20) includes a diffuser device (27) for stabilizing cavitating flows, a bypass device (28) for re-injecting flow upstream, and a flow control device (30) for selectively directing secondary fluid flow to either the diffuser device or the bypass device. In addition, at very high flow rates, bypass device (28) may also serve as a high-flow, forward-bypass device. Devices (27) and (28) form a pathway for secondary fluid flows, including cavitating flows, around a first portion (31) of a housing (32).

Abstract: A plurality of pilot controlled liquid operated coolant control valves are mounted in a section of a manifold for actuation by fluid pressure of coolant in said manifold as controlled by solenoid operated pilot valves controlling the fluid pressure operation of the coolant control valves. The manifold and its valve assemblies are positioned adjacent the work and backup rolls of a rolling mill for supplying coolant to said rolls in desirable spray patterns covering the surfaces of the rolls and operable only when the rolling mill is functioning normally.

Abstract: A pilot operated control valve particularly adapted for automatic periodic operation to bleed condensate from compressed air lines or periodically supply lubricant to desired locations in various machines may be actuated electrically by sensors, timers, or manually operated switches. The valve is normally maintained in closed position by the pressure of the compressed air in the line to which it is connected or it may be operated by a separate compressed air, gas or liquid source.

Abstract: A plurality of pilot valve controlled coolant control valves are mounted in manifolds which in turn are positioned adjacent the work and backup rolls of a rolling mill and used to supply coolant to said rolls in desirable spray patterns covering the surfaces of the rolls. The control valves are operable by fluid pressure of the coolant so as to fail-safe in open position to continue delivering coolant to the rolls to protect the same during an unscheduled interruption.
