  • Publication number: 20100235580
Abstract: A system and method are provided for managing cache memory in a computer system. A cache controller portions a cache memory into a plurality of partitions, where each partition includes a plurality of physical cache addresses. Then, the method accepts a memory access message from the processor. The memory access message includes an address in physical memory and a domain identification (ID). A determination is made if the address in physical memory is cacheable. If cacheable, the domain ID is cross-referenced to a cache partition identified by partition bits. An index is derived from the physical memory address, and a partition index is created by combining the partition bits with the index. A processor is granted access (read or write) to an address in cache defined by partition index.

  • Patent number: 5931958
Abstract: A serial storage architecture (SSA) storage subsystem includes a backplane, first and second storage devices, each equipped with a link resiliency circuit, connected to the backplane, an SSA initiator and a series of SSA targets, which include a backplane of the storage pod and the first and second storage devices, serially connected to the SSA initiator. Control and status registers are coupled to the link resiliency circuits. The control register transmits control signals, such as time required for the link resiliency circuits to heal line faults, to the link resiliency circuits in response to commands issued by the SSA initiator. The status register is polled by a controller to the presence of line faults detected by the link resiliency circuits. If so, the detected line faults are reported to the SSA initiator.

  • Patent number: 5590023
Abstract: An apparatus for the suspension of computer expansion cards away from a system planar in a computer chassis. The apparatus includes a card, an interface plate secured to the card, the interface plate having an opening, and a hanger extending from the chassis such that the hanger engages the interface plate through the opening to support the card away from the planar when the card is disconnected from the planar. The opening in the interface plate may have a first portion and a second portion, where the hanger engages the interface plate through the first portion of the opening and secures the interface plate to the chassis when the card is connected to the planar, and the hanger engages the interface plate through the second portion of the opening to support the card away from the planar when the card is disconnected from the planar. Alternatively, the interface plate may be omitted with the opening being placed in the expansion card.

  • Patent number: 5530946
Abstract: A dual processor computer system is disclosed that includes a processor failure detection and recovery circuit which initially designates one of the processing units as the lead-off master and the other processing unit as a slave. The processor failure detection and recovery circuit includes a timer unit which begins the countdown of a predetermined period in response to the initial resetting of the master and slave processors. The processor failure and detection circuit further includes a control unit which determines whether the master processor fails to reset or suffers from a hard failure by determining whether a bit of a storage unit has been set in response to software code intended for execution by the master processor during initialization. If the bit is not set before the lapse of the predetermined time period following reset, the control unit changes the designation of the slave processor to master and simultaneously resets the re-designated master.
