Publication number: 20260122799Abstract: An electronic device may include a flexible display having first and second display portions that rotate relative to one another about a bend axis. The flexible display may be mounted to a foldable housing having first and second housing portions coupled by a hinge that is aligned with the bend axis. The foldable housing is operable in a flat state and a folded state. A translation assembly may be configured to slide the display relative to the housing as the device moves between flat and folded states. A compression assembly may be used to apply compression to the flexible display when the foldable housing is in the folded state. A tension assembly may be used to apply tension to the flexible display when the foldable housing is in the flat state. If desired, the translation, compression, and tension assemblies may be combined into a module.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2025Publication date: April 30, 2026Inventors: James A. Publication number: 20260093290Abstract: The description relates to hinged devices, such as hinged computing devices. One example can include a first portion secured to a first hinge arm that is configured to rotate around a first hinge axis and a second portion secured to a second hinge arm that is configured to rotate around a second hinge axis. A timing shuttle can be positioned on a central shaft that is located between the first hinge axis and the second hinge axis and is configured to control a frictional torque experienced by the first and second hinge arms depending upon orientation of the first and second hinge arms and to synchronize rotation of the first and second hinge arms around the first and second hinge axes.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2022Publication date: April 2, 2026Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Tung Yuen LAU, Denys V. Patent number: 12577979Abstract: The description relates to hinged devices. One example can include a spine defining inner and outer arced surfaces and a hinge arm positioned between the inner and outer arced surfaces and configured to arcuately move from a retracted position to a fully extended position. The example includes an anti-lock link captured between the spine and the hinge arm to move along an arc. Rotation of the hinge arm to the fully extended position is configured to rotate the anti-lock link along the arc and partially out of the spine until the anti-lock link contacts the spine and blocks further extension of the hinge arm. Reverse rotation of the hinge arm from the fully extended position toward the retracted position is configured to initially cause the hinge arm to contact the anti-lock link and not the outer arced surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2023Date of Patent: March 17, 2026Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Devin Caplow-Munro, Denys V. Patent number: 11493953Abstract: A device for supporting an electronic display includes a support surface, a display mount configured to be coupled to a display, and a connection mechanism to connect the display mount to the support surface. The connection mechanism is configured to enable a rotation of the display mount between a first position and a second position. The device also includes a set of springs to provide a spring torque that counterbalances a gravitational torque exerted by the display. The connection mechanism causes a translation of the center point of the display relative to the support surface in concert with the rotation. The connection mechanism also causes the center of rotation of the display to shift during the rotation.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2019Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventor: Daniel C.
