  • Publication number: 20180090898
Abstract: A method of applying a dielectric lubricant to an electrical connector of a consumer electronic device. The method includes inserting a dielectric lubricant delivery device apertures for delivering the dielectric lubricant to the electrical connector into a receptacle of the electronic device; applying pressure to a chamber including the dielectric lubricant, the chamber being fluidly coupled to the apertures of the lubricant delivery device such that the pressure causes the lubricant to enter the receptacle via the apertures and deposit on contacts of the electrical connector; and pulling vacuum using the lubricant delivery device to remove excess dielectric lubricant from the receptacle and the electrical connector.

  • Publication number: 20180069361
Abstract: A unidirectional cable connector that can be operatively connected between a host device and accessory device in the ecosystem of products. The cable includes first and second plug connectors at opposite ends of a wire where the two plug connectors share a common pinout but the insertion plug of the second connector is shortened in length as compared to the insertion plug of the first connector. The shortened plug prevents the second connector from being fully inserted into the host device that includes a standard depth receptacle connector, and thus prevents the second connector from being operatively coupled to the host device. The shortened plug can, however, be operatively connected with an electronic device having a shortened receptacle connector according to embodiments of the disclosure.

  • Publication number: 20180030608
Abstract: Contacts that may be highly corrosion resistant, less susceptible to wear, and may be readily manufactured with a process that controls or reduces resource usage. Corrosion resistance and wear performance may be improved by providing a thicker plating that has a reduced tendency to crack and by using materials that act as catalysts. Wear performance may be improved by reducing grain size for a harder plating. An amount of resources needed may be reduced or controlled by using materials that plate well and by using a manufacturing process having a reduced number of steps.

  • Patent number: 9876307
Abstract: Contact structures for devices, where contacts in the contact structures may provide a sufficient normal force to provide a good electrical connection with corresponding contacts while consuming a minimal amount of surface area, depth, and volume in a device, and where the contact structures may prevent or limit the ingress of fluid or debris into the device. On example may provide a contact structure having a frame. The frame may be arranged to be placed in an opening in a device enclosure for an electronic device or the frame may be part of the electronic device. The frame may include a number of passages, each passage for a contact of the contact structure. Each contact may be held to the frame by a pliable membrane. Each contact may connect to a board in the electronic device via a compliant conductive path.
