  • Publication number: 20070052155
Abstract: Methods and devices for moving media sheets through an image forming device. A sensor is positioned within an input area to determine a height of a media stack. When the media stack is full, a top-most sheet of the media stack is physically closer to the beginning point of the media path. When the media stack is depleted, the top-most sheet is positioned a further distance away from the beginning point. Movement of the media sheet is determined based on the height of the media stack. When the media stack is above a predetermined amount, the media sheet is moved according to a first algorithm. When the media stack is below the predetermined amount, the media sheet is moved according to a second algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20070041987
Abstract: An isolated fusion protein is provided which is a conjugate of a therapeutic polypeptide and an albumin fragment, such as a fragment including an individual domain or subdomain of albumin, or a polymer of albumin (e.g., dimers, trimers, etc.) and which is used to optimize the half-life of that therapeutic agent in the bloodstream in a tunable fashion based on the molecular weight of the fragment or polymer. Albumin fragments useful in the invention include fragments containing any of the individual domains and subdomains of human serum albumin, as well as fragments including specific combinations of binding regions or subdomains. The present invention thus provides fragments or polymers which will allow for optimizing half-lives of therapeutic polypeptides depending on their molecular weight, and this will optimizes protein and vaccine therapeutics to have desired half lives for their greatest effectiveness.

  • Publication number: 20060234960
Abstract: A method is provided for increasing the safety and efficacy of albumin-binding drugs such as those used as anti-cancer, anti-infective, or anti-hypertensive drugs, or for numerous other conditions. In the preferred method, the invention modulates those drugs which bind at the IB site on human serum albumin by co-administering a compound which is highly tolerable to humans and which can bind competitively with those albumin-binding drugs at the IB binding site so as to increase the safety and efficacy of the drug. The invention is advantageous in that by administering the highly tolerable compound in a sufficient amount to compete with the targeted drug, the latter can be administered at a much lower dosage while maintaining or exceeding its potency. Compositions containing the combination of highly tolerable compound and albumin-bind drugs are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20060188305
Abstract: Alignment nip regulation may be implemented by controlling the approach of media to an alignment nip. Where media is fed from a plurality of sources and from a plurality of approach angles through a common alignment nip, nip entry may be controlled by focusing the media through a diverter or a jog in an existing path to alter the course followed by the media sheets. The diverter may be configured to direct the media sheets to a contact point at or near the alignment nip, such as on a roller that forms the alignment nip. Alternatively, media sheets arriving at the nip from separate conduits may be separately directed to a common contact point near the alignment nip. In either case, one or more sensors may detect the approach of the media sheets at a time when the sheets are a common, predetermined distance away from the alignment nip.

  • Publication number: 20060172282
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying and isolating peptides capable of binding of inorganic materials such as silica, silver, germanium, cobalt, iron, or oxides thereof, or other materials on a nanometric scale such as carbon nanotubes, using a combinatorial phage display peptide library and a polymerase-chain reaction (PCR) step to obtain specific amino acids sequences. In the method of the invention, a combinatorial phage display library is used to isolate and select the desired binding peptides by a series of steps of target binding of phage with the nanometric material of interest, elution and purification of the bound phages, and amplification using PCR to determine the sequences of phages producing the desired binding peptides. The binding peptides of the invention are particularly advantageous in that they may be used as templates to guide the development of useful structures on a nanometric scale.

  • Publication number: 20060171848
Abstract: A plasma measurement device comprises data sensors for sensing properties of the plasma environment together with diagnostic sensors for measuring properties related to the functional integrity of the measurement device. Events reported by the diagnostic sensors of the invention may be interpreted as failures of the measurement device, as warnings requiring operator attention or intervention, or alternatively may be employed as data in a predictive algorithm to estimate the remaining useful lifetime of the device. By providing an ability to detect events indicative of faults or failures in a plasma measurement device during use of the device, the invention provides enhanced certainty and confidence in the integrity of data collected by the plasma measurement device.

  • Publication number: 20060157922
Abstract: A method and apparatus for moving media through an image forming device using a roller having a recessed kick area is described herein. The roller includes a contact surface having a first radius that extends 360° around the roller. The roller also includes at least one recess that extends inwardly from the contact surface along a sector of the roller, where a bottom surface of the recess has a second radius less than the first radius. As a result, along the sector of the roller having the recess, the width of the contact surface is less than the width of the roller. The recess comprises at least one kick surface on one end of the recess. As the roller rotates, the kick surface kicks a trailing edge of media exiting the exit roller system into a desired bin of the image forming device.
