Abstract: Methods and devices enable inventory levels to be monitored and controlled across a plurality of networked cash handling devices. A cash handling device may be stocked with inventory. Deposits to and withdrawals from the cash handling device may be made. Changes in the inventory due to the deposits and the withdrawals may be monitored and controlled from a cash handling device or from a remote computer. Inventory in the cash handling devices may be adjusted when at least one threshold for the inventory is reached. Additionally or alternatively, inventory may be dispensed from one or more cash handling devices that have more of a currency denomination than one or more other cash handling devices.

Abstract: Financial transaction capabilities and roles may be delegated by one user to another user allowing a user to act as a proxy for the other user. Allowing one user to conduct transactions on behalf of another may increase efficiency by reducing potential downtime due to transporting funds, setting up and other time consuming tasks. In one or more configurations, a user may conduct transaction on behalf of another user without requiring explicit permission by the other user. The user conducting the transaction may be allowed to do so by virtue of his or her role or position. According to another aspect, roles may be delegated such that one employee may assume the role of another employee in a business. A role may include a set of transaction capabilities, authorizations, responsibilities and the like.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes a system and method for distributing currency to one or more cash drawers for use in a cash register or other point of sale device. A user may pre-configure an amount of currency to be distributed to one or more cash drawers or tills. The cash recycler may include one or more slots into which the one or more cash drawers or tills may be inserted. The preconfigured amount of currency will then be distributed to each of the tills inserted into the cash recycler. In some arrangements, multiple cash drawers may be inserted into the cash recycler and currency will be distributed to each of the cash drawers simultaneously.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices utilize RFID devices in order to provide integrated information for receivables, inventory, and/or transactions from point of sale (POS) devices and cash handling device(s) to accounting systems. Transactions (e.g., debit card, credit card, coin, cash, check, etc.) are allowed at POS devices. The transactions may be communicated to cash handling devices through RFID devices (e.g., coupled to or on tills, receipts, printouts, etc.). Transaction-related materials (e.g., paper currency, coins, checks, receipts, etc.) may be moved from the POS devices to cash handling device(s). Actual counts and expected counts may be determined and may be communicated to accounting systems.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes a cash handling device alert system. Upon occurrence of one or more triggering events, a notification will be sent to one or more responsible entities. The responsible entity may be specified by a user. In addition, a user may specify the frequency of transmission of the notification or alert. In some arrangements, the alert may include a request for acknowledgement from the responsible entity.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes an integrated wireless modem. The wireless modem may be located within a housing of the cash recycler. The wireless modem may connect to a network via a network service provider account held by a retail store or other venue at which the cash recycler is located. Additionally or alternatively, the wireless modem may connect via a network access account held by the financial institution with which the cash recycler is communicating. The wireless modem may include various settings that may be configured and adjusted via the user interface of the cash recycler.

Abstract: Methods and devices provide for a cash handling device to dispense funds for a transfer into a container. RFID indicia may be generated as a receipt and imprinted directly on the container. Alternatively, RFID indicia may be printed and affixed to the container in the form of a tag, ticket, label, sticker, etc. Transportation carriers may use an RFID reader to read the receipt one or more times at one or more locations in order to collect data for data tracking purposes. Notifications may be provided to a bank regarding the transfer. A bank may alter staffing needs based on any such notification. The bank may use an RFID reader to read data from the receipt and compare to verified data in order to identify any discrepancies for the transfer.

Abstract: The present invention supports processing a transaction by a cash handling device. With one aspect, a cash recycling device includes a plate that covers a stacking cassette in order to prevent a deposited note from entering the stacking cassette before the transaction is completed by the user. The plate retracts to allow the deposited note to enter the stacking cassette when the transaction is completed. If the transaction is canceled, all notes on top of the plate are returned to the user. With another aspect, a cash recycling device extracts a deposited note from a stacking cassette if the user cancels the transaction. If a double pick occurs, the extracted note is diverted to a divert cassette. The first extracted note of the double pick is returned to the user. The remaining extracted notes are returned to the stacking cassette. The process may be repeated for all deposited notes.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes an environmental condition monitoring system including a plurality of sensors configured to monitor environmental conditions inside the housing of the cash recycler. In some arrangements, the temperature and/or humidity within the housing will be monitored. Upon sensing that the conditions are outside of a predetermined threshold, an indication will be sent to a controller that will adjust operation of the cash recycler based on the indications received from the sensors.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes a system and method for counting and/or reconciling cash, including currency and/or coin, in a cash drawer or till. The cash drawer may be inserted into a cash handling device and the amount of cash in the drawer may be determined, i.e., using scales to weigh the cash. In some arrangements, the cash may be removed from the cash drawer. In other arrangements, some or all of the cash (i.e., the coin or the currency) may remain in the cash drawer for use in a subsequent shift, workday, etc.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes modules for automatically strapping a plurality of bills together and bagging the strapped bills for transport. A user may determine a number of bills to be bundled in a stack or unit. Once the predetermined threshold is met, the bills will be automatically transferred to a strapping area where the bills will be strapped together for storage or transport. Additionally or alternatively, the bills may be strapped together as they enter a cartridge, such as an overflow cartridge. The strapped bills may be transferred to a bagging module where the stacks of bills will be automatically bagged, each bag including a predetermined number of stacks of bills. The bags will then be transferred to storage for transport.

Abstract: A currency handling system, for example, a currency recycler, may be configured to receive and process currency transactions entered by different recycler users. The currency recycler may identify and/or authenticate the user attempting to perform a transaction, for example, cash withdrawals, deposits, exchanges, or administrative and other functions. Once the user has been identified, the currency recycler may identify one or more user roles associated with the user, and corresponding user thresholds and/or role thresholds which may define a set of functional limitations for the user on the recycler. The recycler may then process the user's transaction request in accordance with the applicable thresholds based on the user and user roles.

Abstract: A method of efficiently transferring and storing funds in a cash handling device is presented. In some arrangements, funds will be deposited into the cash handling device and transferred directly to an overflow cassette for storage and transport, rather than being transferred to a traditional storage unit, such as a recycle unit. Prior to transferring the funds, a determination may be made as to the level in the recycle unit. If the level is above a predetermined threshold, the level in the overflow cassette will be evaluated to determine if that level is below a predetermined threshold. If so, the funds will be directly transferred from deposit to the overflow cassette thereby minimizing the processing, movement, etc. of the deposited bills to reduce risk of jams, malfunction, service issues, etc.

Abstract: A cash recycler or other currency handling device includes an integrated controller located within the cash recycler. The integrated controller provides enhanced security and compatibility in cash recycler or other currency handling devices. For example, by using an integrated controller that is pre-configured according to the components of the cash handling device, no additional configuration may be needed and compatibility issues may be reduced or eliminated altogether. In addition, the controller may include a user interface, such as a touch-sensitive display, for receiving user input regarding cash transactions at the cash handling device.

Abstract: Methods and devices allow a handheld order unit to be used with a cash handling device. A handheld order unit may be used by a staff person to enter order information, to display an amount due for the meal or other transaction, to facilitate payment, to print receipts, and to communicate information about the transaction to a cash handling device. The cash handling device may identify the handheld order unit and the assigned user for the unit and determine what financial documents need to be inserted by the user for reconciliation purposes.
