  • Patent number: 8793364
Abstract: A remote power controller apparatus includes a first interface for communicating with a host computer, a second interface for communicating with a target computer, and a processing component configured to receive a request on the first interface to change the power state or to reset the target computer. In response to receiving such a request, the processing component is configured to transmit a signal on the second interface for changing the power state of the target computer or for resetting the target computer. The processing component may also be configured to receive a signal on the second interface indicating the power state of the target computer, the state of a mass storage device of the target computer, or the state of an audio device of the target computer, and to transmit data indicating the state to the host computer on the first interface.

  • Patent number: 8706587
Abstract: Systems and methods for calculating financial crimes ratings for banking entities are provided. High risk transaction data for a plurality of similarly situated banking entities is collected. The banking entities may include banking centers, business customers, individual customers or other banking entities. Summary data is then calculated from the high risk transaction data. The summary data for a banking entity is then compared to summary data of the similarly situated banking entities to calculate the rating. Financial crimes ratings may be used to allocate investigation and enforcement resources.

  • Publication number: 20050071401
Abstract: A technique for approximating output values of a function based on LaGrange polynomials is provided. Factorization of a LaGrange polynomial results in a simplified representation of the LaGrange polynomial. With this simplified representation, an output value of a function may be determined based on an input value comprising a fixed point input mantissa and an input exponent. Based on a first portion of the fixed point input mantissa, a point value and at least one slope value are provided. At least one slope value is based on a LaGrange polynomial approximation of the function. Thereafter, the point value and the at least one slope value are combined with a second portion of the fixed point input mantissa to provide an output mantissa. Based on this technique, a single set of relatively simple hardware elements may be used to implement a variety of functions with high precision.

  • Patent number: 5722509
Abstract: A tube and tube retainer applied to the base of a railroad rail and capable of being simply and quickly adjusted for the application of lubricant to the wheel/rail interface contact patch. The tube accepts a lubricant supply from an external source at one end and directs it to the appropriate area of the wheel/rail contact patch. Implementation may include a plurality of such tubes on one or both rails to improve effectiveness. The present invention reduces overall waste by applying smaller amounts of lubricant with each tube, but increasing the total amount of lubricant applied.
