  • Patent number: 5402034
Abstract: An image intensifier tube having a conductive coating for draining away accumulated electrons that cause the image intensifier tube to lose resolution. The conductive coating is formed on the insulating surface of the image intensifier tube microchannel plate. The conductive coating is formed from the evaporation of cathode sublimation products which include barium, nickel and tungsten.

  • Patent number: 5127080
Abstract: A fiber optic phosphor screen is made of an optical fiber bundle having individual fibers arranged in parallel with opposite ends thereof extending between internal and external surfaces of the screen. The ends of the individual fibers at the internal surface of the screen have phosphor islands bonded only to the core portions in order to provide a pseudo-intagliated phosphor layer. A reflective layer is coated over the phosphor islands in between on the cladding portions of the fibers. A method for producing the fiber optic phosphor screen includes the steps of applying a phosphor-photoresist layer to the ends of the fibers at the internal surface of the screen, illuminating the opposite ends of the fibers such that only the portions of the phosphor-photoresist layer on the core portions of the fibers are developed and bonded thereto, and removing the undeveloped portions of the phosphor-photoresist layer to leave behind phosphor islands bonded to the core portions.

  • Patent number: 5109469
Abstract: To correct luminous non-uniformity of light provided by a phosphor screen, the phosphor efficiency is varied across the diameter of the phosphor screen. A material that reduces the efficiency of phosphor is deposited on the face of the phosphor screen, such that the material compensates for the luminous non-uniformity and provides a uniform distribution. The material, which can be aluminum, is deposited onto the phosphor screen by a evaporation process.

  • Patent number: 4999211
Abstract: Apparatus for applying an activation layer to a photoemissive wafer of a photocathode, the photocathode having an electrically conductive layer surrounding a portion of its outer surface and contacting the photoemissive layer. A split-ring holder made of a conductive material is placed in a non-conductive support. The support is positioned in a metallic tray and the tray is located in the center of a rotatable carousel in a vacuum chamber. A photocathode is placed in the split-ring holder with its conductive layer contacting both sections of the holder. Electrical current is applied to one section of the split ring and a fork is touched to the other section of the split ring to determine if contact is being made between the conductive layer and the holder. Once it is determined that contact is being made, deposition of the activation layer begins.
