  • Patent number: 5996886
Abstract: The invention comprises a container, preferably of paperboard or other packaging materials, with an easy open feature including an opening tab in a wall or panel of the container for providing a dispensing aperture in the container. The opening tab is formed by a first cut line located in the inner surface of a wall or panel of the container and a second cut line located in the outer surface of the wall or panel container, offset a predetermined distance from the first cut line. The first and second cut lines create a frangible area in the wall or panel, which allows the opening tab to separate from the container wall. The frangible area further is provided with restraining portions to control and resist the inadvertent or unexpected separation of all or part of the tab from the container wall.

  • Patent number: 5472092
Abstract: A shrink wrapped package which provides improved aesthetics in the shrink wrapping of a stack of articles. A stack of articles are received within a sleeve which surrounds the stack of articles and maintains them in stacked relation. One of the end articles in the stack has sidewalls which are spaced from the sleeve. The end of the sleeve adjacent the end article has pivotable panels dependent therefrom, which are moveable from a position spaced from the sidewall of the end article into abutment with the sidewall of the end article. The articles are received in the sleeve with the panels spaced form the article sidewall, and the sleeve is then wrapped in a sheet of shrinkable material. Upon shrinkage of the shrinkable material, the material pulls the flaps into contact with the article sidewall, and the shrinkable material conforms smoothly to the contour of the sleeve without inward bending or warping of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4919785
Abstract: A carton of unitary structure which is adapted for heating food, especially frozen food, in a microwave oven. An openable removable top flap for the carton is formed by partially scoring the outer and inner surfaces of the top panel and providing slit lines or foraminating the front flap. The slit lines of foraminations in the front flap, preferably herringbone slit lines formed into the surface of the carton, extend from locations at a top flap crease in the top panel to positions adjacent a lifting tab portion provided at the free edge of the front flap. A pair of spaced apart first and second score lines are formed in the upper surface of the top panel along the crease line forming the folding edges of the side flaps and along the back flap, whereas a pair of third and fourth score lines in the lower surface are closely spaced apart from and in parallel with but wider spread apart than the first and second score lines.

  • Patent number: 4793490
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide improved packaging for shipping and storing bags containing compressible material. Both a method and a package are disclosed. FIG. 3 shows an array of bags 12 compressed to the height of corrugated fiberboard sleeve 14. The sleeve 14 with the bags 12 therein is covered with a tightly-stretched film 18. All surfaces, except for end 26 and the end opposite to it, are covered with the film. The package enables shipment and storage of bags containing compressible material in unitized loads as shown in FIG. 5 with adequate protection using a minimum of packaging material, while solving the problems of leaning and uneven compression which would otherwise occur.
