  • Patent number: 9599327
Abstract: A multi-mode portable lighting assembly, such as a flashlight, is disclosed. The portable lighting assembly may include a plurality of lighting elements controllable by a plurality of switches. A first switch may be disposed on an outside portion of the portable lighting assembly and may therefore be accessible to a user under normal operating conditions. A second switch may be disposed within a compartment of the portable lighting assembly and may therefore be inaccessible to the user under normal operating conditions. The second switch may also be disposed on the outside portion of the portable lighting assembly. The second switch may have a plurality of positions and dependent on the selected position, the second switch may dictate the operation of the first switch with respect to the plurality of lighting elements.

  • Publication number: 20070266064
Abstract: A central database server (10) supports a central database (12) that contains central database content. A first archiving module (30) archives central database content into a content archive (32). A second archiving module (44) archives the content archive (32) and supporting software (18, 46) into an application archive (50). An application server (20) supports a computer code execution environment (60) for executing the application archive (50) to organize the content of the content archive (32) into a database on the application server (20).

  • Publication number: 20060243112
Abstract: An apparatus for assisting an elderly or physically limited individual in walking or carrying items up or down a stairway includes a guide rail assembly fixedly positioned along the wall of a stairway. A handle is connected to a support bar assembly, and the support bar assembly attaches to the guide rail assembly. The guide rail assembly typically has a tubular inner rail fixedly housed within a tubular outer rail, the outer rail typically includes a guide track along its length, and the inner rail typically includes a pin slot which aligns with the guide track. To operate the apparatus, the user grasps the handle while supporting the upper body on the support bar and moves the support bar assembly along the guide track while walking along the stairway. The handle and support bar assembly can be placed into a braking position as needed while moving along the stairway.

  • Patent number: 6321234
Abstract: A SQL database server system having an enhanced logging system is described. The logging system implements a “private log cache” (PLC) for reducing the contention on the system's “log” resource (which is protected by a log semaphore). An area of memory private to a user's task is set aside as a PLC—a cache where log records are built and stored before being posted to the log. Each PLC may hold multiple log records for a single transaction before they are flushed to the log (page chain) through the log semaphore. When a transaction commits or the memory fills with log records, the PLC associated with the transaction is flushed to the log. Because the log records for a complete transaction are immediately transferred through the log semaphore, contention on the log semaphore decreases. Contention alleviated by the PLC dramatically increases transaction throughput of the database server system.
