Publication number: 20220106098Abstract: A packaged food product may incorporate an angled back card to improve stability by providing an enlarged footprint when the package is standing upright, i.e., vertically oriented. The angled back card can provide a wider base of support between the front of the product and the back card to improve the ability of the package to be self-supporting in an upright position, i.e., to stand up reliably on a shelf without leaning on other structures for external support. The package may be generally dumbbell-shaped as viewed from the front and/or from other angles, and may comprise a center portion that is narrower and/or shallower than adjacent end portions. This may facilitate handling of the product by the consumer and also may help to provide the product with an impactful appearance and theme at retail when the product is viewed from the front and/or from other angles.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2021Publication date: April 7, 2022Inventors: Muluken Tilahun, Daniel Doucette, Daniel R. Feldmeier, Paris Alexander Edwards Lowitz, Stacy Alycia Thomas Castro

Patent number: 11230420Abstract: A method of marketing food items may include displaying in an upright, on-edge orientation on a horizontal shelf in the retail establishment a plurality of generally dumbbell-shaped packages with high-protein food items. The package may be generally dumbbell-shaped as viewed from the front and/or from other angles, and may comprise a center portion that is narrower and/or shallower than adjacent end portions. This may facilitate handling of the product by the consumer and also may help to provide the product with an impactful appearance and theme at retail when the product is viewed from the front and/or from other angles. The product may include high-protein food items, consistent with the theme established by the shape, and may include prominently-displayed information about the protein content of the food items.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2020Date of Patent: January 25, 2022Assignee: Kraft Foods Group Brands LLCInventors: Muluken Tilahun, Daniel Doucette, Daniel R. Publication number: 20070116805Abstract: A food package for sliced food products including a rigid base member forming a compartment for receiving the food product and a rigid lid sealed to the compartment. The base member includes a bottom wall and side wall portions that are configured to engage the food product. Preferably, one or more tapered side wall portions hold the food product upwardly toward the lid and inwardly toward a center of the package. In preferred embodiments, the base member and lid provide a rigid-rigid construction of the food package. In preferred embodiments, the food package does not require the food product be contained within a sealed pouch within the compartment.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2007Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: KRAFT FOODS HOLDINGS, INC.Inventors: Carolina Castellanos, Daniel Doucette

Publication number: 20050061759Abstract: A backcard for use with compartmentalized containers, particularly food containers, that provides a hanging feature and an information feature is provided. The backcard may be secured to the container or package with glue lines properly placed on the package, or glue placed on the backcard. The hanging feature is formed by moving a tab located in an outermost sheet or layer from a non-extended position to an extended position. The backcard is provided with a substantial area, e.g., 50% or more of the backcard area, for printing information such as a list of nutritional facts, a list of food ingredients and the like for presentation to a consumer. In addition, a portion of the backcard may be removable or foldable to expose a portion of the outer layer or a substrate layer, thereby allowing each to display additional information.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2003Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventor: Daniel Doucette

Patent number: 6111522Abstract: A dual processor electronic parking meter (EPM) accepts a plurality of ISO compliant smart cards and authorizes payment of purchased time. The EPM of the invention is equipped with a card reader module (CRM) which accepts/validates transactions effected on smart cards, and also accepts a interface card for connection to a data terminal for revenue collection, meter configuration and meter firmware maintenance. The EPM includes a multi-lingual, intelligent, mixed-mode graphics and icon based display with greater visibility. When the EPM is idle, various sections of the meter are in a sleep mode for prolonging the life of the batteries. The EPM wakes up whenever a card is in the CRM, a coin is inserted, or a key for selecting the parking time and the type of operation is actuated. The EPM is easy to use by both the parking time purchaser and the money collector.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1999Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: J. J.
