    Abstract: A Neural Circuit Probe (NCP) combines a multi-electrode array (MEA) with an automated local probe, wherein the probe is positioned to interact with one or more cells, such as neurons of a neural circuit, grown on or about one or more electrodes of the multi-electrode array. The probe may interact with the cells by electrically recording signals from the multi-electrode array that are assigned to a specific one of the cells. The probe may interact with the cells by locally delivering chemicals to the cells, which transiently and reversibly modulate the electrical behavior of the cells. The probe may interact with the cells by harvesting the cells using a pipette, so that the harvested cells can be sequenced.

    Abstract: A method for making high optical quality multicomponent chalcogenide glasses without refractive index perturbations due to striae, phase separation or crystal formation using a sealed ampoule with chemical components enclosed inside, a two-zone furnace, a convection heating/mixing step, and multiple fining steps. Initially, the sealed ampoule is oriented vertically within the two-zone furnace and heated to melt the chemical components contained within, and a temperature gradient is created between the top zone and the bottom zone such that the bottom zone has a higher temperature. This temperature gradient causes convection currents within the viscous liquid until it is sufficiently mixed due to the convective flow. Then the temperature gradient is reversed such that the top zone now has a higher temperature and the convective flow ceases. The furnace temperatures are then reduced over a period of time, with holds at multiple temperatures for fining and cooling to form a solid glass.

    Abstract: A system and method for automated interaction diagram generation using source code breakpoints is presented. A user sets diagram breakpoints at locations in source code using an integrated development environment (IDE) that includes a diagram generation manager. The user sets the breakpoints at locations where the user wishes to capture the interaction between objects on an interaction diagram. The IDE executes the code and the diagram generation manager collects breakpoint data corresponding to the breakpoints. Once the source code finishes executing, the diagram generation manager formats the breakpoint data and generates an interaction diagram based upon the formatted breakpoint data. The user may instruct the diagram generation manager to add or remove detail from the interaction diagram by adjusting breakpoint attributes and/or adding/deleting breakpoints.

    Abstract: An improved apparatus for gas curing foundry cores includes an instrument system for attachment to a source of curing gas such as a gas generator. The system includes a signal generating section for providing a plurality of first signals. These signals represent the instantaneous mass flow rate of gas flowing to the core box. A counter/controller section is coupled to the signal generating section and totalizes the first signals. A valve device is coupled to the counter/controller section, opened to initiate the flow of gas to the core box and closed to terminate the flow of gas. The valve is opened upon receipt of a signal initiating the curing process and closed when the total of the first signals reaches a value representing a predetermined total mass of gas which has flowed to the core box. The improved method includes initiating flow of a gas to a core box containing raw cores to be cured. The gas includes a curing constituent, either in substantially pure form or mixed with a carrier gas.

    Abstract: An arrest device for a wheeled cart, such as a supermarket shopping cart. The device includes a hook and structure mounting the hook on the cart for swinging thereon in a front-to-back direction. The region where such swinging occurs is shiftable between lowered and raised positions to permit the hook to "walk" over surface irregularities by a compound swinging/shifting movement. In one embodiment, the mounting structure includes a leg pivotably attached at one end to the cart and at its other end to the hook. In another embodiment, the hook and connecting structure are formed as a unitary member having a slot which accomodates both swinging and vertical shifting of the hook with respect to the cart. In still another embodiment, the connecting structure takes the form of a spring which is continuously flexible in a front-to-back direction with respect to the cart.
