Abstract: An oral animal feed and a method of preventing and/or controlling heartworms in a mammal in need thereof by orally administering to the mammal, for example a canine, a feed comprising an effective amount of a systemic anthelmintic that has a relatively long half-life for an effective time to thereby cause the amount of the anthelmintic in the mammal's blood to rise to and be maintained at a therapeutically effective level for preventing and/or controlling heartworms.
