  • Patent number: 4465720
Abstract: A floor mat for an automotive vehicle is provided having a relatively thin, flexible sheet-form main body and a rigidifying sheet-form element formed with or secured thereto in fixed relationship. The rigidifying element is fabricated from or formed by sheets of material that are effectively rigid in thin sheet-form and thereby render the otherwise flexible main body essentially inflexible. The materials selected to form the rigidifying elements preferably have a resilient characteristic, such as spring steel wire rod or inherent resilient rubber or plastic materials to enhance the mat's ability to maintain itself in a desired smooth, flat configuration on a vehicle's floor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 5, 1982
Date of Patent: August 14, 1984
    Assignee: Pretty Products, Inc.
Inventors: Ted A. Bell, Timothy S. Cooksey, Daniel F. Lehner
  • Patent number: 4399176
Abstract: A floor mat for an automotive vehicle is provided having a relatively thin, flexible sheet-form main body and a rigidifying rib structure formed with or secured thereto in fixed relationship. The rigidifying rib structure is fabricated from or formed by elongated elements that are effectively rigid and thereby render the otherwise flexible main body essentially inflexible. The materials selected to form the rib structure preferably have a resilient characteristic, such as spring steel wire rod, to enhance the mat's ability to maintain itself in a desired smooth, flat configuration on a vehicle's floor. The rib structure is of a configuration to rigidify the main body in two generally perpendicular directions to resist displacement in all directions through the essential rigid rib encountering of any obstructions associated with the vehicle floor and the resilient characteristic of the rib accommodating excessive displacing forces and tending to return the main body of the mat to its original configuration.

  • Patent number: 4293140
Abstract: A splash guard structure for automotive vehicles is provided for use in conjunction with a supporting structure having a flanged lip including vertically extending portions. This splash guard structure includes a sheet preferably of heavy rubber formed with two sets of recessed sockets. These sets of sockets are located at respective upper corner and lower portions of an arcuate edge of the splash guard and arranged to accommodate various vehicle body configurations. A thin membrane of the rubber exists at the bottom of each of the sockets of the splash guard and only the membrane of two selected sockets are ruptured for each specific installation thereby maintaining the integrity of the guard to prevent passage of water and debris therethrough. Also included in the combination are two metal clips having a Z-shaped configuration and which are coated with a rust resistant finish and are formed with two legs cooperating with a center interconnecting bar to form clamping elements.
