Patent number: 9075572Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for enhancing the video and audio capabilities of an electronic device (102) using a media enhancement dock (150, 250). According to certain aspects, the systems and methods enhance a field of view of a camera (116) with one or more optical lenses (152, 252, 254). Three dimensional images may be captured and constructed based on images from multiple optical lenses and a shutter (256). The dock may also enhance the sound captured by providing one or more far-field microphones (154, 262, 264). A beamforming analysis of the audio signals from multiple microphones may increase the sensitivity and localization of sound. Internal and/or external light sources may be adjusted by the dock to achieve a sufficient level of ambient light in the environment. Videoconferencing and gesture control applications executing on the electronic device may be enriched through use of the media enhancement dock.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2012Date of Patent: July 7, 2015Assignee: Google Technology Holdings LLCInventors: Ramy S Ayoub, Daniel F Tell

Patent number: 7647052Abstract: A gateway (111, 200) and method for routing calls for a wireless communication unit (113) via a selected network (105, 124, 131) comprises an access point (217) supporting a wireless LAN and a modem (203, 229) for wireless connections to a wireless WAN and an interface 227 with a wired local loop (105). The methodology involves using a first network, such as a local loop if available and a second network, such as a packet data WAN 131 otherwise as well as maintaining the busy status of the first network via the second network.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2005Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Daniel F. Tell, Richard J. Malcolm

Publication number: 20080052396Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a service from an application service provider to a client in a communications system including a network proxy describes a first step of defining services provided by the service provider as Extensible Markup Language (XML) metadata. A next step includes defining services desired by the client as XML metadata. A next step includes collecting the XML metadata from the client and service provider. A next step includes comparing the client XML metadata against the service provider XML metadata. A next step includes providing the substantially matched service from the service provider to the client upon the finding of a substantial match between the client metadata and the service provider metadata.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Daniel F. Tell, Mark A. Gannon, Barry J. Menich, Stephen L. Spear, Steven D. Upp

Patent number: 7020087Abstract: The invention provides for path optimization for routing of a communication session in a network having a plurality of core networks coupled to a plurality of access networks. Both a core network and an access network perform the path optimization by determining a plurality of possible paths to a plurality of target access points to form a target matrix, determining a corresponding route preference factor for each possible path of the target matrix, and selecting, from the target matrix, a possible path having an optimal route preference factor. An overall or complete path, for routing of the communication session, is then determined either by combining the selected possible paths, or by selecting one possible path as a complete path.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2003Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Paul D. Steinberg, Richard J. Malcolm, Joseph M. Pedziwiatr, Richard E. White, Daniel F. Tell, Brian J. Moore, Stephen L. Spear, John M. Sauer

Patent number: 6385179Abstract: A communication system (100) having packet and circuit switched networks (102 and 101) provides connection between at least a first and a second end users by establishing a call connection via a radio access network (105), establishing a control channel associated the call connection between radio access network (105) and packet switched network (102) through a first packet switched connection, selecting one of packet and circuit switched networks (101 and 102) for establishing a traffic channel associated with the call connection, and routing the traffic channel through said selected network while maintaining the control channel through packet switched network (102).Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1999Date of Patent: May 7, 2002Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Richard J. Patent number: 4654867Abstract: A data message transmission system for a cellular radiotelephone system is disclosed. Data to be transmitted is converted into a format compatible with radio transmission prior to transmission. The data is reconverted to its original format following reception. Handoff is accomplished by halting the data transmission prior to handoff and resuming data transmission after handoff. Call supervision occurs via busy-idle bit coding.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1986Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Gerald P. Labedz, Jeffrey D. Bonta, Dennis R.
