  • Patent number: 9197433
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for supporting non-delivery notification between a switch and device in a network. A login with a switch is initiated including a test service parameter requesting a non-delivery notification service to cause the switch to return a non-delivery notification in response to a test path request indicating a destination node that is unavailable. Indication is made that the test service is available for the login in response to receiving a reply from the switch that the switch accepts the login with the non-delivery notification service. The test path request is sent to the switch to determine whether the destination node is available. The non-delivery notification is received from the switch in response to the switch determining that the destination node to which the test path request is directed is unavailable.

  • Patent number: 8687649
Abstract: A network node that forwards traffic of a converged network received from a source end node receives a second message addressed to the network node, but intended for the source end node. The second message includes at least a portion of a first message originated by the source end node and previously forwarded by the network node. The network node extracts from the first message a source identifier of the source end node in a first communication protocol and determines by reference to a data structure a destination address of the second message in a second communication protocol. The network node modifies the second message to include the destination address and forwards the second message toward the source end node in accordance with the destination address.

  • Patent number: 8683460
Abstract: An approach is provided in which a distributed management appliance receives active device type identifiers from a computing system included in a distributed environment. The distributed management appliance identifies legacy device types from the active device type identifiers that fail to correspond to devices currently supported by the distributed management appliance. In turn, the distributed management appliance includes legacy device type identifiers and supported device type identifiers in a customized support matrix and distributes the customized support matrix to each of the computing systems included in the distributed environment.

  • Patent number: 8634294
Abstract: In various embodiments a traffic class manager is a resource within a virtualized computer systems trusted entity (e.g. a hypervisor, trusted partition, etc.) that maps requirements from a platform management and associated network capabilities onto an adapter (e.g. SR-IOV adapter, etc.) in order to appropriately allocate adapter and network resources to virtualized computer partitions. In various embodiments the traffic class manager defines network traffic classes that meet the objectives of a platform administrator based on the capabilities of the adapter and the network attached to the adapter ports. Once the traffic classes are defined, in various embodiments, the traffic class manager enforces the assignment of a traffic class to a virtual interface queue pair within a partition.

  • Patent number: 8635162
Abstract: Exemplary methods, systems, and products are described for creating rules for the administration of end-user license agreements (‘EULAs’). Creating rules for the administration of end-user license agreements is accomplished by identifying, from historical license data, a license administration pattern. A license administration rule is then created in dependence upon the license administration pattern. Identifying a license administration pattern from historical license data may include data mining a collection of accepted EULAs and data mining a collection of rejected EULAs.

  • Patent number: 8589776
Abstract: Translating between a first communication protocol used by a first network component and a second communication protocol used by a second network, where translating includes: receiving, by a network engine adapter operating independently from the first and second network components, data packets from the first and second network components; and performing, by the network engine, a combined communication protocol based on the first communication protocol and the second communication protocol, including manipulating data packets of at least one of the first communication protocol or the second communication protocol, thereby offloading performance requirements for the combined communication protocol from the first and second network components.
