  • Publication number: 20090199691
Abstract: Hardened cutter elements commonly called cutters used in saw chains to act as cutter links. The hardened cutters have hard insets applied and connected to the cutting face of the cutter. The insets are made of a hard, tough material, such as a suitable carbide. Also shown are saw chains having the hardened cutter links with the hard insets. The preferred insets include a rear portion having a semi-cylindrical attachment surface. The attachment surface is configured for attachment to a filed or ground cutting face of a conventional saw chain cutter. A front portion of the inset has a cutting face which is provided with beveled cutting face corners and preferably chamfered edges extending rearwardly from the inset cutting face. Methods of producing the cutters with insets and for producing saw chains with the hardened cutters are also described.

  • Patent number: 5435065
Abstract: A bar mounted chainsaw cutting depth gauge is described on a chain saw cutting bar for selectively covering a length of the chainsaw bar and bar tip. The gauge includes an elongated base sleeve mountable to the chainsaw bar to cover a portion of the chainsaw bar. A fastener releasably and securely mounts the base sleeve to the chainsaw cutting bar. An outer housing is slidably received over the chainsaw bar and base sleeve for sliding movement along the length thereof from a first or extended position wherein the bar tip is encased within the outer housing and a second or retracted position wherein the bar tip is exposed outward from the outer housing. The outer housing includes an outer tip with a slit formed therein for permitting passage of the chainsaw bar therethrough. A spring is operatively mounted between the base sleeve and outer housing to constantly, yieldably bias the outer housing toward the first extended position.

  • Patent number: 5205711
Abstract: A hand portable positive pressure blower for fire fighting is described which includes an engine 10 with a drive shaft 12 mounting a propeller 16 within a propeller guard 22. This assembly is rigidly mounted to a central frame 27 that itself is rigid and extends about the engine. The central frame 27 is mounted by pivots 47 to a rigid support frame 37 for movement about a fixed adjustment axis 50. An adjustment means is provided to enable selective angular positioning of the central frame about the adjustment axis. The support frame 37 is mounted on rubber feet 42, 43 at integral pairs of forward and rearward legs 38, 39. The legs 38, 39 are angularly oriented with respect to the adjustment axis. Distances from the feet to the adjustment axis and the angular relationship of the blades promotes a secure footing for the blower and a compact configuration to facilitate transport and storage.

  • Patent number: 5062487
Abstract: The drawings and description describe a hand-portable fire fighting, positive pressure blower with water misting provisions 10 for cooling and producing positive pressure within a smoke filled space and to remove the smoke, heat and carbon dioxide from the area to facilitate extinguishment of the fire and subsequent overhauling. The blower 10 includes a portable support frame 12. An internal combustion engine 13 is mounted thereon with a drive shaft mounted propeller 18 for generating an airstream to be directed into the smoke filled space. Misting nozzles are mountable to the frame and are positioned thereon to direct a spray mist into the airstream from positions radially outward of the airstream. The nozzles are positioned in relation to the direction of propeller rotation so the spray mist will be carried over a maximum distance. The water spray mist substantially cools the airstream which then absorbs much of the heat in the area.
