Patent number: 9145904Abstract: Fluid regulator systems having reset apparatus and methods are described herein. An example reset apparatus for use with a fluid regulator system includes a first valve having an inlet to receive a loading fluid and an outlet in fluid communication with a loading chamber of a fluid regulator, and a second valve having an inlet in fluid communication with the loading chamber of the fluid regulator and an outlet in fluid communication with a vent.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2011Date of Patent: September 29, 2015Assignee: EMERSON PROCESS MANAGEMENT REGULATOR TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: James Lyman Griffin, Jr., Daniel Gunder Roper, Douglas James Scheffler, Harold Joe McKinney, Jason Daniel Journey

Patent number: 9086702Abstract: Pressure-balanced fluid pressure regulators are described. An example fluid regulator includes a fluid flow control member disposed within a fluid flow passageway of a valve body and moves relative to a seat ring to modulate fluid flow through the fluid flow passageway. A valve stem couples the fluid flow control member to an actuator. The valve stem has a pathway to allow fluid from an inlet of the fluid flow passageway to flow across the flow control member between a first side of the flow control member and a second side of the flow control member opposite the first side to pressure-balance the fluid flow control member.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2011Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: EMERSON PROCESS MANAGEMENT REGULATOR TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: James Lyman Griffin, Jr., Daniel Gunder Roper, Jason Dirk Jablonski, Harold Joe McKinney, Andrew Jared Lukensmeyer

Patent number: 8740179Abstract: Two-piece trim apparatus for use with fluid regulators are described. In one described example, a fluid regulator has a regulator body and a first seat ring to provide a first flow characteristic disposed within the body and defining a fluid orifice. The first seat ring is interchangeable with a second seat ring that is to provide a second flow characteristic different from the first flow characteristic. The fluid regulator also includes a first cage to provide a third fluid characteristic and removably coupled to the first seat ring. The first cage is interchangeable with a second cage that is to provide a fourth fluid flow characteristic different from the third flow characteristic. The first cage can be selectively coupled to the first seat ring or the second seat ring and the first seat ring can be selectively coupled to the first cage or the second cage.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2008Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Fisher Controls International, LLCInventors: James Lyman Griffin, Jr., Thomas Leroy Weyer, Jr., Daniel Gunder Roper, Harold Joe McKinney

Patent number: 8590858Abstract: A regulator having a valve body defining a flow-path for a fluid and having a valve seat, an actuator casing coupled to the valve body, a control member disposed within the actuator casing and adapted for displacement relative to the valve body and the valve seat for regulating a flow of the fluid through the flow-path by moving between an open position and a closed position wherein the control member engages the valve seat, and a spring operatively coupled to the control member and biasing the control member toward the open position. The control member includes a surface facing the valve seat that is recessed. The recessed surface may be a counter-bore, or may have a convex shape, conical shape, or other appropriate recessed surface. So configured, the regulator displaced improved stability in high inlet pressure, low output pressure, high flow rate implementations.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2010Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Emerson Process Management Regulator Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Gunder Roper, Harold Joe McKinney, Douglas J. Patent number: 5709369Abstract: A self-aligning valve disc assembly for a fluid regulator valve. A disc holder includes a central, raised protrusion enabled in one embodiment by a cone-shaped floor surface for providing a single point of contact with a disc. The single contact point provides a pivoting action with a point of force inside the diameter of the opposing force of the valve seat. This enables the pivoting action of the disc to self-align the disc to the seating surface so as to reduce the forces required for the regulator to function properly.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1996Date of Patent: January 20, 1998Assignee: Fisher Controls International, Inc.Inventors: James Chester Hawkins, Daniel Gunder Roper, David Edward Woollums, David Blair Davis, Shane Nicholson, Justin Wade Hart
