  • Patent number: 10699097
Abstract: Biometric detection of a fingerprint is provided by a flexible sensor, in which one or more positioning members move at least a portion of the sensor to conform to a shape of a finger disposed along the sensor to enable capture of a rolled-equivalent fingerprint for the finger. Such one or more positioning members move the sensor causing it to curl at least along a region extending between right and left sides of a fingernail of the finger around a front of the finger in order to conform the sensor to the finger so that the sensing elements of the sensor when enabled capture images of the rolled-equivalent fingerprints without rotation or rocking of the finger with respect to the sensor. When sensing elements are optically sensitive, one or more light sources may provide light to illuminate the finger when the sensor captures rolled-equivalent fingerprint images.

  • Patent number: 10024655
Abstract: A sensor for capturing images of skin topology is provided having a platen, and a one or two-dimensional array of light sensing pixel elements for receiving light representative of skin topology when skin, such as finger(s), are present upon the platen. Such sensor being improved by structures, layers, or methods for reducing or blocking ambient light which would hinder the light sensing pixel elements from sensing the light representative of skin topology. The sensors are non-imaging contact sensors as they have platen to contact skin to be imaged, and do not require optics, such as lenses for focusing and/or magnification, to enable proper capture of light representative of skin topology on the sensor's light sensing pixel elements.

  • Patent number: 9893102
Abstract: A sensor is provided for capturing images of skin topology having an upper surface providing a platen, and a one or two-dimensional array of light sensing pixel elements for receiving light representative of the topology of skin when upon the upper surface and illuminated by at least redirected ambient light received within the sensor through the upper surface. One or more layers or coatings of reflective or scattering materials are provided in the sensor for redirecting ambient light by one or more of reflection, scattering, or propagation towards the platen to illuminate the skin. The pixel elements are sensitive to one or more selected wavelengths or wavelength ranges of the ambient light present. Optional light source(s) may be provided for use when ambient light present is inadequate for proper sensor operation.

  • Patent number: 9773169
Abstract: The invention provides an image capture system, apparatus and method for capturing a biometric image in high ambient light environments. Reflections from ambient light can introduce unwanted environmental pattern noise that can interfere with extracting information from a captured biometric image. The invention performs attenuation of ambient light without requiring employment of shielding to prevent ambient light from reflecting off of a surface being imaged. As a result, the invention can be deployed into environments with varied indoor or outdoor lighting characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9280695
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for capturing fingerprint images having a platen (21) sized for at most two fingers of a hand, and an imaging system for enabling capture of fingerprint images presented to the platen (21), in which images of two different finger pairs are captured for each hand of a subject when presented to the platen. At least one processor (27) which determines for each of the images captured a difference in height of at least one characteristic of the fingers in the image. Using said difference in height of the fingers in each of the images, the processor (27) verifies that the correct sequence of specific ones of finger pair was provided by the subject to the platen when images were captured. Fingerprint images acquired from the images may be stored in an electronic record along with thumb prints and subject information, and optionally the height differences for the images.
