The tool applies greatly multiplied force to the jaws by repeatedly advancing the force multiplying elements in ratcheting manner. The force is maintained in a substantially continuous manner by a separate locking pawl that engages a geared face.

It can also substitute for hands free controls, remote controls, and other electronic input accessories to extend the versatility of these other electronic tools.
