  • Publication number: 20160297699
Abstract: The present description relates to a process for the psychrophilic anaerobic digestion of ammonia-rich waste, such as farm manure or municipal waste, comprising the steps of contacting the ammonia-rich waste to an inoculum comprising anaerobic bacteria in a digester and reacting the ammonia-rich waste with the inoculum at a temperature below 25° C. to allow digestion of the ammonia-rich waste.

  • Publication number: 20160297700
Abstract: The present description relates to a process for the psychrophilic anaerobic digestion of high organic solids content waste, such as farm manure or municipal waste, comprising the steps of contacting the high organic solids content waste to an inoculum comprising anaerobic bacteria in a digester and reacting the high organic solids content waste with the inoculum at a temperature below 25° C. to allow digestion of the high organic solids content waste.

  • Patent number: 8496906
Abstract: A biological process for removing hydrogen sulphide from biogas is disclosed. The process involves injecting a small quantity of air into the gas phase or the liquid phase of a psychrophilic bioreactor to allow microbial flora to convert the hydrogen sulphide into elemental sulphur.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5863434
Abstract: A process to stabilize, deodorize, recover energy, reduce pollution potential, and add value to organic waste such as animal manure is described. The process involves the anaerobic digestion of animal manure at low temperatures in intermittently fed sequencing batch reactors. The process of the present application offers several advantages over the prior art processes including (1) the process works very well at low temperatures and therefore does not require pre-heating of the animal manure; (2) the process does not require continuous or daily feeding nor does it require continuous mixing; (3) the process makes use of existing handling and storage equipment at the farm and requires minimal supervision and skill by the operator; (4) the process is very efficient in retaining the slow growing microorganisms in the system and (5) the system is not affected by high concentrations of volatile acids and ammonia or nitrogen. Consequently, the process is low cost and does not interfere with regular farm operations.
