Patent number: 9985395Abstract: A medical cable connector of a medical cable receives a medical lead while an electrical receptacle within the medical cable connector is placed into a distal position relative to an outer body of the medical cable connector. The electrical receptacle is retracted to a proximal position once insertion of the medical lead into the medical cable connector is completed. The electrical receptacle may be mounted to an inner body which moves relative to the outer body. A biasing member may be present to bias the inner body to a particular position. A slider may be present to provide a clinician with a surface to touch when applying force to position the electrical receptacle in the distal position for insertion of the medical lead. Various other features may be present to facilitate insertion of the medical lead and/or to maintain the position of the electrical receptacle relative to the outer body.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: May 29, 2018Assignee: MEDTRONIC, INC.Inventors: Daniel J. Patent number: 8892217Abstract: The disclosure describes a medical lead with a retrieval wire that extends from the proximal end of the lead. The retrieval wire allows a physician to insert the medical lead into a patient and grab the retrieval wire to pull the proximal end of the lead away from the implant site. Upon gaining access to a lead connector on the proximal end of the medical lead, the physician may remove the retrieval wire and couple the lead connector to an implantable medical device that provides stimulation therapy. In this manner the physician may avoid damaging the lead connector when retrieving the medical lead. In addition, the retrieval wire may be used to provide test stimulation to verify correct electrode location. The medical lead may be used to stimulate tissue such as the stomach, small intestine, and the large intestine.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2006Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Antoine Camps, Daniel J. Patent number: 8406901Abstract: A device comprises a medical implant and an actively deployable clip attached to the medical implant that operates to restrict movement of the medical implant once the actively deployable clip is deployed within a body of a patient. In some embodiments, the medical implant is an electrical lead for electrical stimulation. The actively deployable clip is operable to fixate the medical implant to a body tissue once deployed, such that the actively deployable clip performs a similar function to a suture. In this manner, embodiments of the invention may provide a medical implant that requires few or even no sutures to properly fixate the implant within the patient.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2006Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Warren L. Starkebaum, Daniel J. Stetson, Eric H. Bonde

Publication number: 20120042517Abstract: A method for forming a lead body includes contacting a proximal section of the lead body having a lumen and a first lead body characteristic to a distal section of the lead body having a lumen and a second lead body characteristic. The proximal and distal sections are contacted such that their lumens are axially aligned. A lap band is disposed about a portion of the proximal section and a portion of the distal section, and is thermally formed to the proximal and distal sections. Axially compressive pressure is applied to the lap band as the lead body is being thermally formed. The pressure applied is sufficient to result in the lead body having an outer diameter in regions proximally and distally adjacent to the lap band that are substantially the same to an outer diameter in a region formed by the lap band.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2011Publication date: February 23, 2012Applicant: Medtronics, Inc.Inventors: Carole A. Tronnes, Daniel J. Stetson, Brian T. Stolz

Publication number: 20030220678Abstract: An implantable medical or intramuscular lead system, such as for use as a gastric lead, and method of use in which electrodes along the lead are imbedded in tissue. The system includes a clip having two arms biased to a closed position clamping the lead. The arms of the clip are movable against the bias to an open position allowing the clip to be moved along the length of the lead, or the clip to be attached or removed in the lateral direction. The system facilitates implantation of the lead in tissue, and may be particularly suited for minimally invasive implantation, such as laparoscopically.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2002Publication date: November 27, 2003Inventors: Carole A. Patent number: 5532893Abstract: A lifter for supporting a fabric finer of a flexible magnetic recording disc, such as a floppy diskette, so that the disc is cleaned by rotation of the disc with respect to the liner. The lifter is in the shape of a parallelogram having interior angles of about 85.degree. and 95.degree.. The lifters are cut from a length of planar, polyester material with a single, straight cut, so that all of the material is used to make the lifters, thereby minimizing wastage of material during the production of lifters for floppy diskette cartridges.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1994Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Mark R.
