  • Patent number: 10240518
Abstract: A variable-geometry turbocharger (1) with a vane lever (11) that provides a stop function at full open position of the guide vanes (8). The integrated vane-open stop controls the full open position of the VTG mechanism. A vane lever (11) preferably has an integrated protrusion (50) that functions as a vane-open stop that contacts an adjacent vane lever (11), an integrated bolt (56), or the upper vane ring (16) at the full open position to regulate maximum exhaust gas flow to the turbine wheel (5).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 2014
Date of Patent: March 26, 2019
    Assignee: BorgWarner Inc.
Inventors: Vahidin Alajbegovic, Daniel J. Van Saun, Robert S. Lerosen, Daniel N. Ward

  • Publication number: 20130154194
Abstract: To prevent escape of exhaust gas and soot from a turbocharger, a heat resistant sealing material is applied to a contact surface between a turbocharger bearing housing and center housing, and cured or dried to form a thin solidified coating. The end housing is then assembled to the bearing housing, whereby the coating provides a gas and soot seal between the bearing housing and end housing. The inventive seal could however also be used to seal the connection between two turbine stages, or any parts attached to a turbocharger end housing and subject to pressure.
