Publication number: 20200349596Abstract: Edits on a content item, such as a document, are divided into microtasks. The microtasks associated with a document can be automatically identified based on a workflow or can be identified by a user associated with the content item or an administrator. At a later time, the user can complete the microtasks for a content item using an application associated with their smart phone or tablet. The application may present the microtasks in a game-like environment where the user can compete with other users based on metrics such as number of microtasks completed in a day or fastest completion time. In addition, the user can earn rewards such as badges, coupons, or credits by completing microtasks. In this way, users can use time that would have been wasted playing games to complete their content items, while still experiencing some of the fun and competition associated with the games.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2020Publication date: November 5, 2020Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Jaime B. Patent number: 10353967Abstract: A system described herein includes a receiver component that receives a first dataset, wherein the first dataset comprises temporal dynamics pertaining to a document that is accessible by a search engine, wherein the temporal dynamics comprise an identity of a term corresponding to the document and an indication that the term has been subject to change over time. The system also includes a weight assignor component that assigns a relevance weight to the document based at least in part upon the temporal dynamics pertaining to the document, wherein the relevance weight is utilized by the search engine to assign a ranking to the document with respect to at least one other document when the search engine retrieves the document.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2009Date of Patent: July 16, 2019Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Susan T. Publication number: 20170085608Abstract: Some examples include transitioning between an individual mode and a collaborative mode in response to an orientation change of a device. Further, some implementations include identifying data to be shared with one or more other devices (e.g., co-located devices) in the collaborative mode. In some examples, the individual mode may be associated with an individual search, the collaborative mode may be associated with a collaborative search, and the devices may transition between the individual mode and the collaborative mode in response to orientation changes.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2016Publication date: March 23, 2017Inventors: Shiri Azenkot, Meredith June Morris, Jaime Brooks Teevan, Daniel John Liebling

Publication number: 20120041953Abstract: A latent topic labels text mining system and method to mine and analyze the content of textual data. Embodiments of the system and method are particularly well suited for use on microblog data to help people identify posts they want to read and to find people that they want to follow. Embodiments of the system and method use a modified Labeled LDA technique (called an L+LDA technique) that analyzes content using a combination of labeled and latent topics. The resultant data is assigned labels one of four labels to generate a lower-dimensional representation of the data that the individual words in a microblog post. This learned topic representation is used to characterize, summarize, filter, find, suggest, and compare the content of microblog posts. Embodiments of the system and method also include visualization techniques such as a tag cloud visualization that is used to visualize microblogging data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2010Publication date: February 16, 2012Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Susan Theresa Dumais, Daniel Ramage, Daniel John Liebling, Steven Mark Drucker

Publication number: 20090143125Abstract: An interactive map-based game is provided for populating a landmark database with commonly known landmarks. A game session can provide a user with a number of maps that can be presented in succession. Each map presented can be a map segment that is a function of a latitude/longitude pair and a zoom level. A user can enter the names of landmarks believed to be contained in the map segment. If the name entered matches a name within a landmark database, points can be awarded. Once a threshold level of positive confirmations of a landmark name are received, the landmark can be marked as taboo and further entries of that landmark name can be disregarded or minimal points can be awarded for the entry.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2007Publication date: June 4, 2009Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: Patrick M.
