  • Publication number: 20060053774
Abstract: An exhaust treatment system comprises an exhaust fluid source; a particulate filter disposed downstream of and in fluid communication with the exhaust fluid source; a valve disposed downstream of and in fluid communication with the particulate filter; and a reformer disposed in fluid communication with and downstream of the valve such that the valve is capable of directing exhaust fluid from the exhaust fluid source to the reformer.

  • Publication number: 20060042236
Abstract: An exhaust emissions control system includes a valve in an exhaust stream portion of a mainstream exhaust ahead of an aftertreatment element such as a catalytic converter. The valve controls the amount of exhaust flowing into a hydrocarbon reformer. A bi-directional acoustical air meter in the exhaust stream portion ahead of the reformer measures the velocity of the exhaust stream portion, and a computer determines the amount of combustion needed in the converter at all times, adjusts the amount of hydrocarbon fuel provided to the reformer, and adjusts the position of the valve to provide the optimum amount of exhaust gas flow into the reformer to achieve a desired temperature in the converter.

  • Patent number: 6615129
Abstract: An engine control system for use with an internal combustion engine includes a two-step switching device associated with each intake valve. The two-step switching device is switchable between a high-lift position and a low-lift position. A cam phaser is associated with the cam shaft and is operable to change a phase of the cam shaft relative to a crankshaft of the engine. An engine control module is electrically interconnected with the two-step switching device and the cam phaser. The engine control module includes a memory. A computer program is stored in the memory of the engine control module, and is executable by the engine control module to conjunctively control the two-step switching device and the cam phaser dependent at least in part upon a desired engine load.
