Abstract: A method for enabling access to a data resource, which is held on a file server (25) on a first local area network (LAN) (21a), by a client (28) on a second LAN (21b). A proxy receiver (48) on the second LAN (21b) intercepts a request for the data resource submitted by the client (28) and transmits a message via a wide area network (WAN) (29) to a proxy transmitter (52) on the first LAN (21a), requesting the data resource. The proxy transmitter (52) retrieves a replica of the data resource from the file server (25) and conveys the replica of the data resource over the WAN (29) to the proxy receiver (48), which serves the replica of the data resource from the proxy receiver (48) to the client (28) over the second LAN (21b).

Abstract: A rapid near-infrared instrument for measuring constituents of nonhomogeneous samples is disclosed which alleviates the need for taking successive measurements of the sample, and repositioning the sample for each successive measurement, by providing a novel illumination system including a light pipe which transmits near-infrared energy to the sample at a plurality of substantially separate and independent location. This arrangement permits a plurality of subsample measurements to be taken simultaneously which enables accurate constituent measurements to be made quickly and easily.

Abstract: Novel 3-formylchromone derivatives are disclosed, substituted on the 5,6,7, or 8 positions by one or more of the following substituents: halogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower acyl, lower acyloxy, or methylenedioxy. The corresponding 3-acetal or 3-hydrazone derivatives of the carboxaldehyde group are also disclosed. These compounds, and pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds are useful for the treatment of allergic conditions and for the treatment of hyperacidity.

Abstract: Process for the production of substituted pyrano[3,2-c] [1,2]benzothiazine 6,6-dioxides and novel intermediates produced thereby of the general formula I: ##SPC1##wherein R represents hydrogen and lower alkyl; R' represents lower alkyl and formyl; by reacting, as the first step, the corresponding 2-substituted-2H-1,2-benzothiazin-4(3H)-one 1,1-dioxide (II) with a boron trifluoride compound and an acid anhydride IV; alternately, the starting material may be a 3-acetyl-2-substituted-2H-1,2-benzothiazin-4-[3H]-one 1,1-dioxide (III) which is reacted with the boron trifluoride compound, without the necessity for the acid anhydride (IV). Starting materials II and III subjected to step one of the process yield novel boron complex intermediates V (2,2-difluoro-4,5-disubstituted-2H-1,3,2-dioxaborino[5,4-c]-1,2-benzothiaz ine 6,6-dioxide).

Abstract: Novel polycyclic gamma-pyrone derivatives having a carboxaldehyde group on the 3-position and optionally substituted on the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 positions with a hydroxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group are disclosed, as well as the corresponding N-substituted, formyl imine derivatives thereof. These compounds, and pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds, are useful for the treatment of allergic conditions and for the treatment of hyperacidity.

Abstract: Novel pyrano[3,2-c][1,2]benzothiazine 6,6-dioxides are disclosed, substituted on the 3 position by a lower alkyl, carboxaldehyde, or hydroxymethyl group and, optionally substituted on the 5 position by a lower alkyl group. The corresponding aldehyde thiosemicarbazone derivatives of these compounds are also disclosed. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the substituted pyrano[3,2-c][1,2]benzothiazine 6,6-dioxides of this invention are useful in the treatment of hyperacidity; certain of these compounds also demonstrate anti-allergy activity.

Abstract: A process for the production of partially saturated gamma-pyrones of the general formula I: ##SPC1##wherein R represents hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy and n represents 1 or 2, by reacting a suitably substituted tetralone (IIa) or indanone (IIb) with a boron trifluoride compound and acetic anhydride to obtain intermediate boron complexes III, which are reacted with a Vilsmeier reagent prepared from phosphorus oxychloride and dimethylformamide to obtain the partially saturated gamma-pyrones of formula I. The gamma-pyrones I have anti-allergy and anti-secretory activity.

Abstract: Novel (hydroxymethylene) chromone derivatives of the general formula I: ##SPC1##wherein n represents 1 or 2, are prepared by reacting a cycloalkanone II with a boron trifluoride compound and acetic anhydride to obtain novel boron complex intermediates of the formula III: ##SPC2##wherein n represents 1 or 2, and reacting III with a Vilsmeier reagent prepared from phosphorus oxychloride and dimethylformamide. The final product I and pharmaceutical compositions containing I are useful in the treatment of allergic conditions and in the treatment of hyperacidity.
