  • Patent number: 7489972
Abstract: Handling or removal of a pair of pre-connected defibrillator electrode pads from their package, or a compartment in the defibrillator, is detected in order to effectively time the issuance of prompts to guide the user. Detection occurs when an impedance level between the electrode pads varies sufficiently over time to indicate occurrence of the handling or removal event. The pads are preferably configured to leverage variability in the impedance that results from bending of pads during handling or removal.

  • Patent number: 7404544
Abstract: A torque limiting clutch includes a drive shaft having central rotational axis, a disk-shaped spring member secured to the drive shaft for rotation therewith, and a plate adjacent the spring member and having a plurality of grooves receiving bosses of the spring member. The spring member has a plurality bosses formed at an outer edge of the spring member that each form a generally V-shaped engagement surface. The grooves each form a generally V-shaped engagement surface engaging the bosses. A retaining clip retains the plate relative to the spring member to obtain a predetermined spring pretension. Engagement of the bosses with the grooves causes rotation of the plate upon rotation of the drive shaft when below a predetermined torque limit and deflection of the bosses out of the grooves prevents rotation of the plate upon rotation of the drive shaft when above the predetermine torque.

  • Patent number: 7086664
Abstract: A jack handle includes a handle arm having first and second ends, a jack driver having a coupling shaft, and a spring clip detachably securing the jack driver to the handle arm. The first end of the handle arm forms a socket receiving the coupling shaft. The spring clip has a protrusion resiliently deflectable between a locking position interlocking with the coupling shaft to secure the jack driver to the handle arm and a releasing position free of the coupling shaft such that the jack driver is released from the handle arm. Preferably, the spring clip encircles the periphery of the handle arm at the socket, the handle arm has an opening at the socket, and the protrusion of the clip extends through the opening and into the groove to interlock the jack driver with the handle arm.

  • Patent number: 6799749
Abstract: A jack includes a base, a load rest, first and second lower arms each pivotable to the base, and first and second upper arms each pivotable to the load rest. The first lower arm and the first upper arm are pivotably connected at a first joint and the second lower arm and the second upper arm are pivotably connected at a second joint. A drive screw moves the joints toward and away from each other upon rotation of the drive screw. A bearing receives the drive screw therethrough. The arms each form a longitudinally extending channel and the bearing is located outside the channels. The bearing has a lateral width greater than a lateral width of the channels and is located between a bearing engagement surface of a bearing support and an abutment of the drive screw.

  • Patent number: 6427981
Abstract: A tire carrier assembly for storing a spare tire of a motor vehicle includes a tire carrier adapted for supporting the spare tire, a winch assembly operably connected to the tire carrier to raise and lower the tire carrier between a stowed position wherein the tire is inaccessible and a deployed position wherein the tire is accessible, and a latch assembly. The latch assembly includes at least one latch member and an actuator adapted to selectively move the latch member between a locking position wherein the latch member prevents movement of the tire carrier from the stowed position to the deployed position and an unlocking position wherein the latch member permits movement of the tire carrier from the stowed position to the deployed position. The actuator includes a push-pull cable and a pull handle such that the operator manually pulls the cable to move the latch member from the locking position to the unlocking position.

  • Patent number: 6267546
Abstract: A tire carrier assembly for storing a spare tire of a motor vehicle includes a tire carrier for supporting the spare tire and having a swivel with a shank portion and a head portion along the shank portion, a winch assembly operably connected to the tire carrier with a cable or rope to raise and lower the tire carrier between upper and lower positions, a housing assembly forming a horizontal support surface, and a secondary latch assembly secured to the housing assembly and adapted to selectively confine the tire carrier in the upper position. The secondary latch assembly includes a sliding latch member supported by the horizontal support surface and an actuator adapted to selectively move the latch member along a linear path between a locking position and an unlocking position.
