  • Patent number: 8568849
Abstract: A surface treatment for a protective plastic film and/or laminate is disclosed. Suitably, the surface treatment includes coating a major surface of the plastic film or laminate with a curable coating formulation wherein the one or more of the coating ingredients are diffused or migrated at least partially into the plastic film or plastic laminate. The migration of coating ingredients creates a gradual transition layer from the plastic film to the coating layer and leads to unique properties. Optionally, the surface treated plastic film is laminated to a release liner coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) to form the aforementioned laminate.

  • Publication number: 20040142495
Abstract: An article for detecting the presence, or the absence, of an analyte. The analyte is indicative of a change in the status of a packaged material. The article generally includes a facestock film having first and second surfaces, an adhesive layer adjacent to the facestock film, and a detecting system adjacent to the facestock film. A measurable analyte can be in vapor and/or liquid form, and the detecting system indicates whether the analyte is present. That is, the detecting system responds to contact with the analyte by indicating that such contact has occurred, or that the analyte is present.

  • Patent number: 6743880
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the preparation of hydrophilic water insoluble, gel-free copolymers of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and at least one of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 4-hydroxybutyl acrylate and acrylic or methacrylic acid, where the copolymers are prepared in a solution of water and alcohol using monomeric 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate containing ethylene glycol dimethacrylate impurities up to about 0.15% by weight and substantially in the absence of a chain transfer agent. The copolymers are convertible to water soluble copolymers by pH adjustment. The invention also provides a method for the preparation of a copolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and 4-hydroxybutyl acrylate, and a homopolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate in a solution of water and either a monoalcohol or a polyhydric alcohol.

  • Patent number: 6706836
Abstract: A method for the preparation of gel-free poly 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate substantially in the absence of a chain transfer agent, comprising introducing monomeric 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate containing ethylene glycol dimethacrylate impurities in the range of about 0.05 to 0.1% by weight into alcohol, polymerizing the 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate to form a polymerization mixture, and removing the alcohol. Hydrophilic pressure sensitive adhesives are provided by adding polyethylene glycol to the polymerization mixture prior to removing the alcohol.

  • Patent number: 6706355
Abstract: There is provided an adhesive article including (a) a radiation curable adhesive layer comprising an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive and, optionally, an acrylated urethane polymer; and (b) a transparent carrier layer. The adhesive article may contain a radiation curable epoxy layer between the radiation curable adhesive layer and the transparent carrier layer. This adhesive article is particularly useful in preparing protective coatings on color filters for use in a liquid-crystal display panel structure. The radiation curable epoxy layer and radiation curable pressure sensitive adhesive are applied to the color filter and then exposed to UV radiation. The UV radiation exposure transforms the pressure sensitive adhesive from a removable adhesive to a permanent adhesive. The color filter with the UV cured adhesive layer is then baked to fully cure the adhesive layer and to transform the adhesive further into a near structural adhesive.
