  • Patent number: 10753729
Abstract: A device for detecting and determining deformations on a structure surface containing diffractive stress indicator elements comprises a portable computing device having a camera, a processor, a memory, and a display screen, and a casing for conformably enclosing the portable computing device. In one embodiment, the casing includes an elongated light source, a first window positioned to provide access to the display screen of the portable computing device, and a second window positioned to allowing the light source to emit a band of light outside of the casing, and a port hole aligned with the camera of the portable computing device. When the device is positioned proximate to the structure, the elongated light source emits a band of illumination onto the diffractive stress indicator elements, the diffractive elements diffract the emitted radiation and the camera of the portable computing device receives at least a portion of the diffracted radiation.

  • Publication number: 20170023221
Abstract: A luminaire (100) has an elongate tubular shell (1) and an elongate internal chassis (2) within the shell dividing space within the shell between a first compartment for electrical components and a second compartment for optical components (7, 6). The luminaire has a sealing cap (3, 4) at each end, and at least one of which supports an auxiliary active component for an application such as emergency lighting or car parking management. The shell (1) has features 1(a) for desired optical properties. The only seals are at the ends, between the end caps and the shell, and these are via sealing rings (17).

  • Patent number: 8899779
Abstract: An illuminator (1) an elongate inner housing (10) having a substrate (20) on which there is a linear array of light emitting diodes (24), wherein the diodes have sufficient power for illuminating objects at a distance of at least 1.5 m. A drive circuit (30, 31) is mounted in an upper compartment of an outer housing (2) at least partly surrounding the inner housing (10). There is a diffuser (22) over the diodes. There is a pair of side reflectors extending substantially parallel to an axis of the illuminator, being side walls (26) of the inner housing. The inner housing (10) is coupled to the outer housing (2) in a modular manner so that it is interchangeable. There is a series of reflector baffles (23) extending from a plane of the diodes at intervals along the length of the inner housing. The baffles (23) have textured surfaces and have a dimension normal to the substrate sufficient to act as visors to limit glare in the longitudinal direction.

  • Publication number: 20060144514
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to method of forming a polarizing plate comprising providing two cover sheets each comprising a low birefringence protective polymer film and a layer promoting adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing films that comprises a dissolved first poly(vinyl alcohol) having a degree of hydrolysis of at least 98%. A glue composition is applied when bringing the PVA dichroic polarizing film into contact with the cover sheets, the glue composition comprising a dissolved second poly(vinyl alcohol) having a degree of hydrolysis of at least 98% in combination with crosslinking agent.

  • Publication number: 20060018120
Abstract: An illuminator (1) has an array of cavities (3) are drilled in a substrate having an FR4 electrically insulating body (7) plated with copper conductors (6(a), 6(b)). Further patterning of the substrate provided electrical conductors (3(b)) in the cavities to act as both part of the light drive circuit and reflectors in the cavities. The drilling is performed to the full depth of the FR4 body (7) until underneath plating (6(b)) is reached. A further Cu plating (4(b)) is applied on the platings (6(b)) so that they together form a heat spreader under each cavity (3). A layer (8) of resin incorporating thermally conductive particles is bonded to the underside surfaces, both of the FR4 (7) and of the platings (4(b)). A heat sink (9) is bonded to the layer (8). Good optical efficiency and thermal dissipation is achieved, despite the fact that conventional PCT processing techniques are used.

  • Publication number: 20050249932
Abstract: The present invention generally relates a method of forming a polarizing plate comprising providing two protective cover sheets, each protective cover sheet for polarizers comprising a low birefringence protective polymer film and a layer promoting adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing films comprising a hydrophilic polymer. The cover sheets are brought into contact with a PVA dichroic polarizing film such that said layer promoting adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing films in each of said two cover sheets is in contact with said PVA dichroic polarizing film. A glue composition is applied just before contacting said PVA dichroic polarizing film and said cover sheets, said glue composition being substantially free of dissolved polymer and comprising a crosslinking agent that crosslinks PVA.
