  • Patent number: 9658130
Abstract: A monitoring system for a subsea blowout preventer is provided. The monitoring system includes a fiber optic cable (435) wrapped around preventer portions to be monitored such as rams, pistons, cylinders, housing, connector, to capture acoustic emissions from those portions during operation. The preventer is tested to determine a baseline or fingerprint of normal operation. The acoustic emissions captured during operation are compared with the baseline to detect potential anomalies that may indicate a problem.

  • Publication number: 20140123747
Abstract: A method for pressure testing a well system includes: pressurizing testing fluid within a closeable chamber of a well system; determining a leak within the closeable chamber using real time pressure and temperature measurements of the volume of testing fluid within the closeable chamber; and determining the pathway of the leak using real time pressure and temperature measurements of a volume of fluid that is disposed adjacent to the closeable chamber.

  • Publication number: 20140124197
Abstract: A method for maneuvering a downhole tool in a well system includes: displacing a tool through a riser; detecting electromagnetic radiation from a source in real time using a detector coupled to the tool; and altering the velocity of the tool in response to detecting the electromagnetic radiation.

  • Publication number: 20140027113
Abstract: A system for pressure testing a component of a well system includes a tubular member extending into a wellbore. The tubular member has a fluid passageway and one or more nodes that are configured to measure fluid pressure. The system also includes a heat exchanger configured to cool a fluid passing therethrough.

  • Publication number: 20130327533
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing wellbore influx in a marine riser. In one embodiment, a method for managing wellbore influx includes identifying a difference between measured values provided by a plurality of sensors longitudinally spaced along a riser. Whether the difference between measured values provided by a given pair of the sensors has changed relative to a difference between measured values previously provided by the given pair of the sensors is determined. Whether wellbore influx is present in the riser is determined based on the change in the difference.

  • Publication number: 20130299242
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a ballooning zone in downhole formations. In one embodiment, a method for identifying a ballooning zone in downhole formations includes disposing a drill string in a wellbore. The drill string includes a plurality of wired drill pipes connected end-to-end, and a bottomhole assembly connected to the drill pipes. While circulating drilling fluid through the wellbore, a first resistivity of a formation drilled is measured. While not circulating drilling fluid through the wellbore, a second resistivity of the formation drilled is measured. The first resistivity and the second resistivity are compared. Based on a result of the comparing, a level of ballooning attributable to the formations is identified.
