  • Publication number: 20070149122
Abstract: A method and apparatus for an electronic device 101 operating in a piconet 100 to assign itself a unique identifier 112 is provided. Once the device 101 assigns itself the unique identifier 112, which may be temporary in nature, the device 101 may use the temporary identifier 112 to identify itself to other devices 102-105 operating within the piconet 100, which may be a Bluetooth local area network. In accordance with one embodiment of the method, a device 101 may first scan the piconet 100 to determine device identifiers 113-116 corresponding to devices 102-105 that are operating within the piconet 100. After scanning the device 101 stores the device identifiers 113-116 in a list and queries the list to determine which identifiers are included in the list. The device 101 then selects the temporary, unique identifier 112 that is not found in the list. The unique identifier 112 may then be used to identify the device 101 to the piconet.

  • Publication number: 20070092197
Abstract: Optical autodiscovery is provide between two optical modules to insure that when an optical signal is coupled between the two optical module, the optical signal from a first module does not interfere with operation of a second module. The autodiscovery is implemented by sending an optical identification signal from the first optical module via the coupling to the second optical module from which signal, the second optical module can verify and determined acceptance of the coupled first optical module. During this autodiscovery process, the optical identification signal from the first optical module may be attenuated or shifted in optical spectrum so as not to interfere with the operation of the second optical module. Autodiscovery may also be employed in cases where a first optical module is to receive an optical signal from a second module.

  • Publication number: 20060258423
Abstract: A method of conducting a video poker game that includes a plurality of winning hands that award corresponding payouts to a player is disclosed. A wager is received from a player to play the video poker game and in response a final user-playable hand is formed. The final user-playable hand includes a plurality of cards that are displayed to the player on a display. In response to the final user-playable hand being one of the plurality of winning hands, the cards forming a winning combination within the winning hand are removed from the final user-playable hand and are replaced with other cards to form a first bonus hand. A first payout corresponding to the one of the plurality of winning hands in the final user-playable hand is awarded.

  • Publication number: 20060225955
Abstract: A scissor lift style elevating work platform mounted on an air powered self-propelled wheeled chassis that when disassembled may be passed through a small diameter access hole and reassembled for immediate use. The machine is air-controlled producing no toxic gases and the machine has no electrical equipment or circuits. The wheel assemblies are bolted to the base and cannot be rotated. Steering is accomplished by rotating opposite pairs of wheels in counter directions or by braking one pair of wheels and powering the other pair so that the machine is forced to skid the tires in order to turn. This feature enhances the mobility of the machine while reducing the complexity of assembly. The machine is designed to reduce the accumulation of blast abrasive on the elevated platform by use of perforated decking that prevents the build up of abrasive on the decking. The machine design reduces accumulation of blast abrasive and paint on the lower scissor linkage slides by use of protective shields.

  • Publication number: 20050286521
Abstract: Client signals to be transported in a transmission network, particularly an optical transmission network, may have different payload envelope rates and are digitally mapped on the client egress side into first transport frames (also referred to as iDTF frames, or intra-node or internal digital transport frames), at the client side for intra-transport within terminal network elements (NEs) and further digitally mapped into second transport frames (also referred to as DTFs or digital transport frames) for inter-transport across the network or a link which, through byte stuffing carried out in the first transport frames so that they always have the same frame size. As a result, the system of framers provides for a DTF format to always have a uniformly universal frame rate throughout the network supporting any client signal frequency, whether a standard client payload or a proprietary client payload, as long as its rate is below payload envelope rate of the client signal.

  • Patent number: 6954835
Abstract: A data-mirroring method in which, while an I/O process is processing a first I/O request for writing data to a first device, control is obtained from that I/O process executing on a host computer. A second I/O request, this one for writing the data to the second device, is then created. Then, control is returned to the I/O process by causing the first I/O request to be made available to a first data storage system managing the first device.

  • Publication number: 20050169646
Abstract: An array of spatially-separated optical detectors is configured to receive a free-space optical communication signal from a remote source. Each optical detector of the array includes an optical system and an array of light sensors. The optical system collects a portion of light received from the remote source and directs it toward the array of light sensors. The array of light sensors, in turn, converts the collected portion of light to one or more electrical, detected signals corresponding to the collected portion of light. A processor is coupled to the array of spatially-separated optical detectors, receiving the detected signals and combining the received signals to obtain information borne by the received optical communication signal.

  • Patent number: 6910098
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assuring data consistency in a data processing network including local and remote data storage controllers interconnected by independent communication paths. The remote storage controller or controllers normally act as a mirror for the local storage controller or controllers. If, for any reason, transfers over one of the independent communication paths is interrupted, transfers over all the independent communication paths to predefined devices in a group are suspended thereby assuring the consistency of the data at the remote storage controller or controllers. When the cause of the interruption has been corrected, the local storage controllers are able to transfer data modified since the suspension occurred to their corresponding remote storage controllers thereby to reestablish synchronism and consistency for the entire dataset.
