  • Patent number: 4471395
Abstract: Shown and described is a recirculating air system for a disk drive assembly wherein air moves radially over the disk surfaces, over the transducer carriage at an increased velocity, past the actuator mechanism and through a filter before recirculation is induced by the hub assembly on which the disks are mounted and which functions also as an impeller. The hub-disk assembly also forms an integral part of the drive motor rotor assembly. Also, a breather filter and breather opening communicate with the recirculating air path at the low pressure location of the recirculating path to assure that air entering the system passes through the breather filter.

  • Patent number: 4363044
Abstract: A tray for a machine operative to sequentially pull jacketed flexible magnetic disks (which may be termed "diskettes") into a data transferring position in the machine from the tray. The tray has a few open top store grooves for a few diskettes desired to be individually used and has a magazine detachably mounted thereon which has a bottom and a top with a greater number of diskette store grooves in the bottom and top for a group of diskettes to be used together. The machine is operative to partially withdraw and to return to original positions diskettes from the open top store grooves or from the grooves in the magazine.

  • Patent number: 4170030
Abstract: A machine operative to sequentially pull jacketed flexible magnetic disks (which may be termed "diskettes") into a data transferring position in the machine directly from a carriage or from a magazine carried by the carriage and to return the diskette back into the carriage or magazine. The jackets of the diskettes are square; and the carriage and the magazine are provided with flat sided, flat bottomed store grooves for holding such diskettes. The machine is likewise provided with a diskette receptor groove having flat sides and a flat bottom and holding a diskette in its data transferring position in the machine.

  • Patent number: 4110804
Abstract: A magnetic head or transducer assembly for cooperating with a relatively moving magnetic medium and for reading and/or writing a track of magnetic information on the medium and for erasing the edges of the track and old information adjacent to the edges of a newly written track. The head comprises a central magnetic core with a gap on an active face of the head assembly and with a read/write coil on the magnetic core and comprises a pair of additional, erase magnetic cores on opposite sides of the central magnetic core and forming a pair of erase gaps on the active face of the head assembly. A single erase coil is disposed on opposite legs of the erase cores, and an L-shaped side bar completes the erase magnetic circuit for both of the erase cores and lies on one end of the erase coil and provides an air gap between it and the ends of each of these erase core legs so as to cause the action of the two erase gaps to be equal in their erasing action.

  • Patent number: 4089029
Abstract: A data storage apparatus having a thin flexible disk with magnetic recording surfaces on both faces and a carriage embracing the disk and carrying a pair of transducers in contact with opposite faces of the disk. Each of the transducers is mounted on a relatively weak gimbal spring. Relative rigid load arms bear on dimples located at the centers of the transducers to form universal joint connections with the transducers. The gimbal springs and universal joint connections allow the transducers to pitch and roll with wobbling movements of the flexible disk without movement of the load arms. The load arms are mounted on relatively stiff gimbal spring portions for applying a predetermined force to the transducers holding them in engagement with the disk while allowing yielding movement of the transducers in directions normal to the disk engaging faces of the transducers.

  • Patent number: RE29380
Abstract: Magnetic disk recording apparatus including a pair of magnetic transducers contacting the opposite sides of a magnetic disk and each carried by a swingable arm. The arms are interconnected together so that the swinging movement of one of the arms is transmitted to the other arm to cause an opposite swinging movement of the other arm for simultaneously moving the transducers away from the magnetic disk. An electro-magnet actuates one of the arms so as to thereby also move the other arm.
