Publication number: 20240102820Abstract: A method comprises receiving a query via a graphical user interface (GUI); running the query against a gazetteer system to obtain one or more geographical coordinates; causing a presentation in the GUI of a digital map including a set of regions corresponding to a set of geographical coordinates from the one or more geographical coordinates; receiving a selection of a region of the set of regions; causing a presentation in the GUI a geotag dialog for an object corresponding to the region, the object being of an object type in an ontology model and having a plurality of properties; receiving via the geotag dialog a selection of a property of the plurality of properties; associating a geotag with the property, the geotag including a geographical coordinate of the one or more geographical coordinates corresponding to the region, wherein the method is performed by one or more processors.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Daniel P. Cervelli, John Antonio Carrino

Patent number: 11841238Abstract: A mapping system comprising processes for creating and displaying structured geotagged data using interactive digital geographic imagery is disclosed. In one embodiment, a mapping system comprises processes and logic for creating a geo tag for structured data. A user creates a geo tag for a property of an object by selecting a geographic location on an interactive digital map and selecting the property of the object from a dialog presented to the user in response to selecting the geographic location. In this way, the user can more quickly and easily create structured geotagged data than can be accomplished using typical approaches requiring the user to manually enter geographic coordinates to associate a geographic location with structured data.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2021Date of Patent: December 12, 2023Assignee: Palantir Technologies Inc.Inventors: Daniel P. Cervelli, John Antonio Carrino

Patent number: 9396410Abstract: Techniques are provided for preserving angles at graph elbows as graph nodes are moved. A graph, which includes a first segment and a second segment that form an acute or obtuse angle at a vertex, is displayed. The first segment has a first end opposite the vertex at a first position; the second segment has a second end opposite the vertex at a second position. User input moves the second end from the second position to a third position. In response, the angle is automatically preserved by modifying a length of the first segment and a length of the second segment, without modifying the first position of the first end. Other techniques can replace two segments with a single segment if one of the segments becomes too short, or snap an elbow angle to a specified angle if moving the node causes the elbow angle to near the specified angle.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2011Date of Patent: July 19, 2016Assignee: PALANTIR TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: Daniel P. Cervelli, Carl Freeland

Patent number: 8514229Abstract: Processes, machines, and computer-readable media are provided for expanding and simplifying a polygon or reducing and simplifying a polygon. Polygon expanding or reducing logic receives information that represents a polygon having a set of vertices. The polygon expanding or reducing logic determines another polygon having another set of vertices, such that the other polygon encompasses or is encompassed by the polygon, by determining, for each vertex of the set of vertices, a new set of vertices that are derived from the vertex and are at least a particular distance outside or inside the polygon. The vertex reducing logic determines whether an intermediate vertex is within the particular distance of a proposed segment between two other vertices of the other set of vertices, even though the intermediate vertex is not on the proposed segment, and, if so, removing the intermediate vertex from the other set of vertices.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2012Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Palantir Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Daniel P. Cervelli, John A. Carrino
