  • Publication number: 20240122598
Abstract: In one general aspect, various embodiments of the present invention can include a motorized surgical cutting and fastening instrument having a drive shaft, a motor selectively engageable with the drive shaft, and a manual return mechanism configured to operably disengage the motor from the drive shaft and retract the drive shaft. In at least one embodiment, a surgeon, or other operator of the surgical instrument, can utilize the manual return mechanism to retract the drive shaft after it has been advanced, especially when the motor, or a power source supplying the motor, has failed or is otherwise unable to provide a force sufficient to retract the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 7637842
Abstract: A method and system to capture energy during regenerative braking while managing driveline disturbances by controlling locking and unlocking of a torque-converter clutch based upon operator input, typically throttle position or accelerator pedal position, vehicle speed, and engine load is offered. The exemplary vehicle has an engine, a torque converter with a clutch, and a transmission device. Vehicle kinetic energy is transmittable to an electrical machine using the transmission device and the torque converter. It includes monitoring an operator demand for power, engine operating speed, and, engine load; and, actuating the locking clutch for the torque converter based upon the operator demand for power, the engine operating speed, and, the engine load.

  • Publication number: 20090080673
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling the volume of a motor vehicle entertainment system. One motor vehicle includes a sound system, a motor having an idle speed, and a processor. The processor is configured to determine the speed of the motor and to adjust the volume of the sound system if the determined speed is less than or equal to the idle speed. An entertainment system coupleable to a combustion motor includes means for producing sound, means for determining the speed of the combustion motor, and means for adjusting the volume of the sound producing means if the determined speed is less than or equal to a threshold speed. One method includes the steps of determining the speed of the combustion motor and adjusting the volume of the entertainment system if the determined speed is less than or equal to a threshold speed.
