Patent number: 9967129Abstract: A method is provided for invoking call features to be executed in a session initiation protocol (SIP) environment, the method comprising: receiving a signal indicating a feature activation; and inserting a call information header into a SIP message, the call information header comprising a parameter that identifies the activated feature. Alternatively or additionally, a method is provided for controlling a user interface coupled to an endpoint in a SIP environment, the method comprising: receiving a SIP message comprising a user interface parameter carried in a call information header; and modifying the user interface to reflect the value of the user interface parameter. In yet another alternative, a method is provided for communicating user interface information to an endpoint in a SIP environment, comprising: creating a SIP message comprising a user interface parameter in a call information header; and transmitting the SIP message to the endpoint.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2006Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Umesh P. Patent number: 9088600Abstract: A method for implementing a SIP feature includes, in particular embodiments, establishing a communication session via a communications platform between a first and second user and receiving a request from a third user to join the communication session. The second and third users are from a plurality of users using a shared line. The method further includes integrating communications of the third user into the communication session. In particular embodiments the method includes establishing a communication session between a first and second user via a communications platform. The method also includes receiving a select request that locks the communication session so that a third user cannot resume the communication session with the first user. In particular embodiments the method includes receiving a request from a first user of a shared line to enable a privacy feature that reduces call information generated by the communications platform in remote state notifications.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2014Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Daniel P. Linton, Craig P. Miller, Pandit Panburana, Stephen Levy, Christopher E. Pearce

Patent number: 8495231Abstract: A remote call control method is provided, the method comprising exchanging a session initiation protocol message, wherein the message indicates a call control request is associated with the message; identifying a resource associated with the call control request, wherein the resource includes one or more parameters of the call control request; and performing a call control operation according to the parameters of the call control request. A communication platform and endpoint are provided for executing a call control operation according to a call control request. The communication platform and endpoint comprise a processor component operable to exchange a session initiation protocol message, identify a resource associated with the call control request, and execute a call control operation according to the parameters of the call control request. The message indicates a call control request is associated with the message, and the resource includes parameters associated with the call control request.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2006Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Umesh P. Patent number: 8036360Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a method produces a hook status notification. The method comprises detecting an off-hook state, allocating a half-dialog identification, generating an off-hook notification message, and associating the half-dialog identification with the off-hook notification message. In an alternative embodiment, a communication platform is adapted to comprise a processor component operable to receive an off-hook notification message comprising a half-dialog identification, and to store the half-dialog identification. The communication platform subsequently receives a signaling protocol message initiating a dialog, wherein the signaling protocol message is associated with the half-dialog identification. The communication platform then correlates the second signaling protocol message with the stored half-dialog identification.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2006Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Surya B. Patent number: 7899175Abstract: A method to be executed in a session initiation protocol (SIP) environment is provided that includes initiating a conversion process that involves a change from a first communications platform to a second communications platform. One or more routing tables associated with the first communications platform are then dumped. A conversion script is executed such that one or more patterns associated with a dial plan corresponding to the second communications platform are provided in a dial plan format. One or more files associated with the dial plan are loaded into one or more endpoints that are designated to change to the second communications platform.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2005Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Denise G. Caballero-McCann, William M. Hudson, Jr., Stephen Levy, Daniel P. Linton, Carleton M. Luck, Jr., Louis L. Pratt, Christopher E. Pearce
