Patent number: 10549166Abstract: Apparatus and method train a batter to maintain the batter's eyes directed toward a prescribed point of contact where a ball is to be contacted by a bat wielded by the batter during a swing of the bat. A batting tee holds the ball, and a plurality of visually distinct signals on the tee are located such that the signals are blocked from view by the batter when the ball is in place on the tee, and are visible by the batter when the ball is struck from the tee and the batter's eyes are directed toward the point of contact as the ball leaves the tee.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2018Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Inventors: Lukas D. Patent number: 7036822Abstract: A poker game based on an Aces and 8's legend pays a high multiple of the amount bet for the highest winning hand containing two pair of aces and 8's, and pays a lower multiple of the amount bet for the second highest winning hand containing two pair other than aces and 8's. A hand of less than a pair and neither an ace nor an 8 wins the amount bet, and all other hands lose. Dealing and betting rules can vary, and the game is adaptable to machine play.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2004Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Inventor: Daniel R. O'Grady

Patent number: 5255520Abstract: A thermoelectric heating and cooling system which includes a load plate, one or more thermoelectric devices and a heat sink. The load plate includes a housing having a hollow cavity filled with a fluid which changes temperature slower than the load plate housing to thereby act as a sustaining phase change reservoir to help maintain the desired temperature on the load plate. Each thermoelectric device is separated from the heat sink by a spacer formed of material having high thermal conductivity. The spacers, in conjunction with material having low thermal conductivity which separates the load plate from the heat sink, forms a spacer duct for the passage of fluid between the load plate and the heat sink and around the spacers. A housing surrounds the exterior surfacer of the heat sink to form a heat sink duct for channeling fluid across the fins provided on the heat sink. The heat sink duct and the spacer duct are interconnected, whereby a single fan can force fluid through both.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1991Date of Patent: October 26, 1993Assignee: Refir TechnologiesInventors: Daniel R. O'Geary, Larry D. Arnold

Patent number: 5059763Abstract: A method of forming optical quality surfaces in optical material is described. In particular, high optical quality end face surfaces are provided in diffused channel waveguides formed on LiNbO.sub.3 crystal material, or the like. A T-shaped trench is first formed by laser ablation. The top of the "T" bisects a plane orthogonal to and passing through the waveguide. The lower part of the "T" is centered on the longitudinal axis of the waveguide and retains an optical fiber abutting the end face.A diamond polishing wheel is inserted in the top trench to polish the end face prior to affixing the fiber optic.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Daniel R. O'Brien, Charles H. Cox, III, Carlton D. Hoyt

Patent number: 4132607Abstract: The present invention is an improved capstan which is used in a magnetic tape transport system, to accelerate a length of magnetic tape. The capstan includes a cylindrical post, adapted to be connected to a drive shaft of a capstan motor in a magnetic tape transport system, a pair of discs, each of which has a set of outer holes disposed adjacent to and distributed about its periphery and a set of inner holes disposed adjacent to and distributed about its central axis, coupled together by the cylindrical post disposed about their central axes. The capstan also includes a first set of cylindrical posts, coupling the inner holes of one disc to the inner holes of the other disc, and a second set of cylindrical posts, coupling some of the outer holes of one disc to some of the outer holes of the other disc. The capstan further includes a cylindrical tape band, which has a set of grooves running concentrically with the discs and the other edges of which are joined to the peripheries of the discs.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1977Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Assignee: Telex Computer Products, Inc.Inventors: Alan Painter, Daniel R. O'Neill, George L. Glaeser, Jr.
