  • Patent number: 7056160
Abstract: A hybrid electrical connector includes both signal and power contacts in the same connector housing. The housing includes a plurality of axially extending passageways for receipt of the signal contacts and a plurality of axially extending cavities for receipt of the power contacts. The connector housing further includes a plurality of transversely extending slots extending through the connector housing intersecting with individual power contact cavities. Moreover, the housing includes a protrusion extending across the lower surface thereof. A Y-shaped terminal retaining member is insertable in the slots and is resiliently held in place in the slots. The power terminals include an opening therethrough forming a locking shoulder for receipt of the transversely extending locking member. In addition, the power terminals include notches for mating with the protrusion. The combination of the notches and the protrusion ensure the terminal is properly positioned within the housing.

  • Patent number: 6872100
Abstract: A hybrid electrical connector includes both signal and power contacts in the same connector housing. The housing includes a plurality of axially extending passageways for receipt of the signal contacts and a plurality of axially extending cavities for receipt of the power contacts. The connector housing further includes a plurality of terminal retaining inserts for the signal contacts. These inserts are latchably retained to the housing, and have a closed face on one side and an open face on the other, with axially extending open slots. The inserts stack one against the other to lock the terminals in place.

  • Patent number: 6350156
Abstract: A modular jack for receiving an RJ-45 plug and for blocking insertion of an RJ-11 plug is disclosed. The modular jack has stamped and formed deflection members having retention sections, ramp surfaces and blocking tabs extending from ends of the ramp surfaces. The blocking tabs project laterally inwardly toward the plug-receiving cavity and block an RJ-11 plug from being inserted into the modular jack. An RJ-45 plug is wider than the RJ-11 plug and engages the ramp surfaces of the deflection members to deflect the blocking tabs away from the plug-receiving cavity, thereby allowing insertion of the RJ-45 plug.
